They say $2-5 pp. However see how good of a job they do. If all you can do is 400-500 then thats what you do.
I think its absurd when people give them 1k and up!!!!

Re: Maitre D Tip?!?!
I was also told between 3-5 dollars a person for the maitre d. I think 800 sounds a little steep unless you are having a 300 person wedding.

We had approx. 205 and we tipped our Maitre'D $1,000.00
WHAT???
I think for that money, I'd rather hire a DOC! Ease the load off of the Maitre D, and tip him about $200. I've got almost 300 guests!

Our quoted us the same thing... Sounds outrageous doesnt it?? I swear they had better be my slave that night and earn their $$

Re: Maitre D Tip?!?!
We tipped 350 I think. I can't really remember. But I do know that the Maitre D doesn't always get all that money. My sister works at a catering hall and only gets 30% of that tip, then 20% to the captain, 10% to bartenders, I think and then 40% goes towards giveaways and whatnot!! It's soooo ridiculous!!

Re: Maitre D Tip?!?!
I've read before on these boards regarding tipping (I'm not sure if its true though) That maitre D's don't get paid, that's all they make.. But think about that, even if every wedding pays him $350.. For 7 hours x 2 weddings a day, that's not to bad. And I don't have to over compensate what I think he deserves just because he's the guy who took a job that doesn't pay him

Re: Maitre D Tip?!?!
We are getting married at Jericho Terrace as well and they mentioned the same thing to us. $800 or up. When I was there finalizing my menu my father asked who that goes too. The Maitre'd IS NOT the only person who gets that tip. They split it with the whole staff. The banquet manager you booked with gets a portion as well as the woman who is finalizing your menu for you and they also split it with the chef, bartender, etc.
I am having about 190 people and my father plans on tipping them about $1,000. I know it is a lot of money but when it is split up between everyone ti doesn't work out to all that much.. We are basing the amount on how many guests we have too.
the 18% gratuity they charge is to pay the waitstaff.
As far as the bridal attendants, they should get a separate tip. I believe we are going to tip them like $50 or $75 each.
HTH..

Exactly. I am at JT too, and they said the suggested tip for our wedding is 1,100. We have over 200 ppl, and they said its 5 dollars a person. They split it with the head chef and some other people.

Yea..I was told by my BM that it's about $3-$5 pp...Also, the Maitre 'D splits the tip...Don't forget the Bridal attendant too...she's separate from the tips that is included on the contract..

it just seems crazy to me! an $800 tip for one person! its a tip, im not paying his salery! and im already paying 18% gratuity on the bill. so insane. but im afraid if i dont tip him that much he'll do a sh*ty job.
Shouldnt he be tipped like at the end of the night based on his service??? Absolutely do not tip before!!!!!

Re: Maitre D Tip?!?!
the 18% grat they dont really see that. we ended up tipping 300 which was divided between the maitre d as well as the waitstaff/dishwasher staff. we tipped our bridal attendant 150. my banquet manager said to tip anywhere from 2-4 dollars per person. and its based on our experience with the maitre d. we loved ours

Re: Maitre D Tip?!?!
i used to be a waitress and worked for tips so i am a VERY good tipper. and i also used to work at a catering hall and i know that the maitre d gets paid a very nice salery, he is not working off just tips alone. on top of that, why should i be giving him an extra tip to split with the chef, banquet and sale managers?? these people also get paid a nice salery. and i know that entire 18% gratuity already included in my contract isnt going completely to the waitstaff. i'd rather give my bridal attendant the bigger tip, she/he's the one that really works for it. they get paid like 7 bucks an hour vs the maitre d who makes 50 grand a year PLUS tips.
...i just think the whole tipping thing is getting out of hand!
