Steve is my BM! He is a character and can tell me to tip people whatever amount all he wants

What does the bridal attendant do? enough to warrant $150???

The MD is there to make sure every single thing runs smoothly, he's in contact with your vendors to make sure they show up on time and set everything up according to what you wanted, and he organizes the whole staff.

Most halls suggest a certain gratuity per person ($4-$7 per person) and (at least as the Riviera goes) that goes towards the MD and the waitstaff. We asked for a breakout of how that will be distributed and the MD came out to getting $300 out of what we were giving. We wound up giving him an extra $100 because he did a lot for us leading up to the wedding, during the wedding and even the day after the wedding - well deserved in our book.

ooh i thought the MD gets all of the tip. i didn't know that they split that with the wait staffa as well. i thought the wait staff was part of the gratuity tip that they charge on top of the pph.

I'm pretty sure the waitstaff is in that 20%, and the Maitre'd gets a seperate tip. They do not split that seperate tip with the waitstaff.

YES, this is my understanding as well. Although I heard that some RH's include maitre'd tip in cost of wedding so check your contracts! Mine doesnt include it!

Re: Maitre'd question

we had our wedding last night (will post a review later) and it was amazing- everything went well at the reception. We honestly thought a $200 tip was fine (have to admit we did not do a lot of research on this beforehand) and when we asked our banquet manager about the tip all she said was that it was up to us, she didn't give a range. When we went back to the hall today to pick up a few things one of the other banquet managers asked if there was a problem because our tip was so low. It was the first thing she said to us- 'your tip was really low.' We said it wasn't intentional, we had no idea how much to give and didn't get much guidance from them, so we gave what we thought was appropriate (by the way the Maitre D went up to FH to thank him before we left so we were clueless that it was an insulting tip). In any event, we went back later today and gave him another $250 (we had 135 guests). So in the end he got a $450 tip.

I think it could have been handled more appropriately on their end. If what we gave was legitimately too low, we were fine to give what is appropriate. There just could have been a better way to deal with it. I suggested that they should probably discuss this when asked (or at least provide some kind of guide) and not say it is up to the couple, only to be upset when they don't get the tip they are expecting. Makes it easier on both ends.

Re: Maitre'd question

So I tipped the maitre d $2 pp and the bridal attendan got $150...which she earned every penny! But at the end of the night the 'captain' came to congratulate and hug me ( basically a where the heck is my tip hug) no one ever told me about a captain! So I asked th bridal attendant and she said yes he should get a tip too! So just be aware!

you have to check with your hall - that is the way mine does it but not everyone does it like that. We asked for the split written out so we knew how much each gets and then we made separate envelopes for each so we knew those people were getting what we were told.

Re: Maitre'd question

the maitre d pretty much runs the whole show- we gave our $500 for 155 guests and he was worth every penny. I also tipped my bridal attendant $100.

Yea If I end up getting a DOC they are NOT get $4-5 a person.

How much do you tip a DOC?

its 20% unless she is the owner of the company - in that case, you don't have to tip her

Re: Maitre'd question

according to our RH, the 20% tip we are giving covers everyone from the busboy to the MD. We do not plan to tip additionaly to this.
FH and I were just talking about this yesterday and i let him know that if its not included, then it generally $3-5 pp. when i told him it would be close to $600 he said no way am i tipping anyone that amount. i have to say i agree.

My maitre'd did absolutely NOTHING! She should consider herself lucky for even getting tipped.

this i very confusing, not only who deserves to get tipped but also an average of how much?!?!?!?
