Re: Maitre'd question
As far as I'm concerned, he's 'head waiter'. I dont know what it is exactly, but this is how I picture it in my head.
I think tips vary....I just started a post asking about tips, but I think $100 and up should be fine?

Re: Maitre'd question
i think the maitre'd tip is supposed to be $3-5 per person. at least that was what it said on the papers one of the hall had given us when we looked there

Re: Maitre'd question
The maitre'd basically 'runs the show', makes sure guests are happy, you and your husband are happy and taken care of, you are where you need to be..etc. When I went to my last meeting with my RH they told me the tip should be between $3-5 per guest...it usually comes out to around $500-800ish...i know yikes!!

Re: Maitre'd question
usuall their tip is a few $$ per person there. I know at coral house it was $1-2...my hall told me like $4-5, which I think is kind of high

Re: Maitre'd question
You RH will usually tell your ours told us between $3-4 a guest.
The MD coordinates everything, lines us the BP for entrance, directs everyone where to stand, moves your guests from the CH to the Reception.
Make sure all the food gets out on time, things like that

Re: Maitre'd question
Ok, I'm sorry, but anyone that tips $800 is out of their minds!
I don't think anyone deserves that big a tip! That's absurd!
maybe my $100+ figure was a bit low, but still, it's not necessary to tip that much! I don't think you need to 'stiff' anyone on tips, of course, but that number is insane!

Re: Maitre'd question
Thanks alot girls!! FH and I were having a conversation about the budget, , and came across tipping, which I did not include in our budget!!!
Soooo Fh proceeds to say he isnt tipping anyone $300-500.....thats absurd...
And asks me what a maitre'd does to deserve that amount of $$, and i was like ummmmm hmmmm let me ask my girls! This is getting stressful!!!! There is never enough money!

Re: Maitre'd question
I am still not clear... If I had a 20% gratuity ($4500) does that include tipping the Maitre'd??? This is all SOOOO confusing!

Re: Maitre'd question
No the 20% gratuity is like the wait staff... Maitre'd is a seperate gratuity. It's crazy that you need a whole seperate budget for tipping

I was told the 20% gratuity that you pay on top of your price per person is to tip out everyone else...the only two people you technically need to tip is the maitre'd and the bridal attendant...anyone else (staff wise at the RH) is taken care of in the gratuity unless you feel they went above and beyond and deserve a little extra

Re: Maitre'd question
mine made sure the day ran smoothly and kept us on schedule. He ran through the rehearsal as well. They say to tip they between 4-5 a person. They are the most you will have to tip!

If I paid my Maitre 'd $4pp, I'd be shelling out almost $500! Where can I get this job?

Re: Maitre'd question
Lol I was at WCC yest and asked this--the MD runs the entire party.
BM- does everything before the wedding day then MD steps in the day of.

Re: Maitre'd question
The MD is there to make sure every single thing runs smoothly, he's in contact with your vendors to make sure they show up on time and set everything up according to what you wanted, and he organizes the whole staff.
Most halls suggest a certain gratuity per person ($4-$7 per person) and (at least as the Riviera goes) that goes towards the MD and the waitstaff. We asked for a breakout of how that will be distributed and the MD came out to getting $300 out of what we were giving. We wound up giving him an extra $100 because he did a lot for us leading up to the wedding, during the wedding and even the day after the wedding - well deserved in our book.
