So, whats the real deal with a Maitre'D tip? My hall suggests $4-5 per person! I feel like this is such a high amount to 'tip' someone who I wont be even meeting until my wedding day! With over 200 people, thats more than $1000 on a 'tip'!
Is $2pp too little? $3? Whats the deal? Feel free to FM if you want.
I feel like the word 'wedding' really means 'tip everyone you come across even though you're already paying a huge fee.'
Why can't this 'fee' be added in from the get-go?
Ahhhh! TIA!

Re: Maitre'D Tip
I know! When I first started planning I complained so much about this because we are already paying so much for these venues! My location recommended $3-$5 and I am keeping it closer to $3! Tip these days is getting to be mandatory everywhere you go, and if you don't tip the recommended amount people actually complain!

Re: Maitre'D Tip
our place alreasdy charges a fee to them.... i know we ave to tip, but if i am already forced to give $300.... that may effect the add'l amount.. or is that wrong?

Re: Maitre'D Tip
We had 105 people and we tipped $380. I was going to give $350 but I was on cloud 9 that day and asked my DOC to add $30 to the envelope.
Like all of you, I couldn't really fathom giving so much of a tip to a near stranger for one day of services, but she did a good job, and I understand the tip is distributed a bit as well.
In the end, what is that -- like 3 1/2 plates? I had at least 4 No's I wish were there, so it wasn't out of the budget to just 'do the right thing' and give a fair tip.

Re: Maitre'D Tip
when i was just at my rh on friday finalizing stuff, we talked to them about it and they said that it isn't required but $3-5pp is normally what you tip. but then the guy also said to remember that tipping isn't mandatory and that he won't lie and say that they don't get paid good, and that yea tipping is appreciated but only tip what you can afford, so if you can only afford 200-300, just do that.
