OK ladies, I really need to start booking some vendors.
I'd like to start with Photo/Video. My budget is $5000 for both. I have a list of photographers who's work i've seen in other reviews/epics/etc. that impressed me. I need help narrowing down this list becauseI do not have the time to meet with 15 photographers.
Can you girls help me by letting me know who from my list is out of my budget and/or who you would NOT reccommend? FM me if you feel more comfortable. Thanks soooo much!
I am looking for a mix of photojournalism and candid with some traditional shots thrown in (For mom )

Duet def is, i went to them and priced them out, it was $5000 for middle of the road package for each combined... still shopping around though I think you can get anyone within your budget, it just depends on what you expect to get for the $5000... its a realistic budget for both

Duet definitely is within that range. That's for two photographers (one traditional, one photojournalist), and one videographer. Coverage for 10 hours, album, etc.
When you start interviewing any photographers, don't mention your budget at all, or if you do, tell them it's $4000 and see how far down they'll go for you. Good luck!

PATKEN is the best! I used them for my photographer and video. Also, keep in mind about 3/4 of the $ is due be4 the wedding, (with Patken, not sure how the others are, but theyre all prob the same), and the last amount is due when u pick up ur proofs. So if u can spend alittle bit more, you'll have more leeway. For both the video and photography, u can probably get a decent pacakge for maybe $6000. u'll have $ from thr wedding. . . remember! lol...call and ask. their prices may have gone up for 07 too......our tab with patken was expensive, because we ordered so many more portraits and stuff, but i think for $600 you get can both, and the DELUXE video package where u can have 3 songs and HM pix to. the other package will only let u have 1 sing and no hm pix! BC by the time me and my mom were done, i dunnp, we gave them about $15,000 and I still havent done my wedding album yet which will have ALOT OF extra pix, which is another $2000-3000!
and I used Vinnie of patken and he was AMAZING!!!!

For Patken i got the following for under 4k.
10 x 10 album not magazine but digital with nice mattings total of 31 portraits
No parent albums - to be honest my parents never look at my bro's so why bother
One 20 x 20 which we are trading it in for small pics
1 11 x 11, 2 8x8, 5 x 7's for bridal party, 1 8x8 engagement portrait, 50 TY cards & wallets (which i may change to foldovers)
Basic Video
Now this what we booked because we have such a tight budget. I know when you go in your add things and it goes up so hopefully by then i will have some money to get 8 more pics in the album.

We used Duet and were extremely happy with them (for photo only). They are definitely within your price range.

I am not sure who I WOULD NOT recommend. I don't remember seeing any bad reviews about any of them. Although, some I have not heard from before.
I used The Right Angle Studio for my wedding. Best choice we made. I can only highly recommend George of the Right Angle.

In all honesty, it really depends on what you are looking for in a package, e.g., how many pics, parent albums, types of albums.
My package with Patken came out to about $5600 but I added more pics on the contract and upgraded the parents albums. I also got the deluxe wedding video, not basic. This would lower the price too.
You really need to meet with them to get something customized to you.

I'm not sure exactly what I want...It would be nice to get a package that includes albums at this price, but I'm not willing to sacrifice quality for an album.
I actually passed Silverfox Studios tonight...I had never heard of them before..i'll def. add them to the list!

i would suggest phone interviews with all of them. You will see how they treat you over the phone and how responsive they are. You may also find out that some of them are no longer available for your date. Create your own package and ask to have it priced for you. This will allow you to have apples to apples comparison on pricing level among all these photographers. We are going with Kolen Weddings based on Konrad's personality, his photo style and his flexibility. Good luck!!

Although I got married last year, I remember when shopping around back in 04 that both Perceptions and Verdi were out of my budget. They were both over $4k without videography. Both companies are excellent photgraphers, but they are not considered budget.
ETA - Of the photographers I did meet with, I was most impressed with Patken and 12th night. I ultimately decided to go with Duet and was extremely pleased with their work.

I HIGHLY recommend Dan Krieger.....for roughly $3,500 I got 2 photographers, all proofs on a DVD, 16x20, engagement portrait, 8x10's, wallets, all thank-yous, and 2 albums.....He has 35 years in the biz and is very, very talented...
