Major Help Needed--Photography

Original post by kahlua716

OK ladies, I really need to start booking some vendors.

I'd like to start with Photo/Video. My budget is $5000 for both. I have a list of photographers who's work i've seen in other reviews/epics/etc. that impressed me. I need help narrowing down this list becauseI do not have the time to meet with 15 photographers.

Can you girls help me by letting me know who from my list is out of my budget and/or who you would NOT reccommend? FM me if you feel more comfortable. Thanks soooo much!

Here's the list:

*Duet
*Patken
*Kolen Weddings
*Velvet Studios
*Thomas Paul
*Imagine Studios
*Perceptions
*Dan Saviano
*Dan Wagner
*Leli
*Verdi
*Right Angle Studios
*Michael Cody

From their website alone I am also interested in:

*Visual Concepts
*Spelman Studios
*Daniel Krieger
*Mark Kauffman

I'm open to any other suggestions...

I am looking for a mix of photojournalism and candid with some traditional shots thrown in (For mom )

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

I checked out a number of those photographers, strictly for photography. Now, depending on what you want (at the time I was shopping for a digital album, 2 parent albums, 2 8 x 10's 1 11x14 and an engagement shoot), I can tell you from what I was looking for that Verdi, Perceptions, Visual Concepts and Imagine Studios are probably out of your budget. I negotiated with Imagine a lot and I'm still paying $5K just for pics (and a traditional album).

I know you have a long list there but when I was shopping around, Artisan was just as good but much more reasonable. Check him out. Or, just email them. Ask them for a quote. Can't hurt!

kevin lysaght - www.klphotography.net
he was FABULOUS to work with and his pics are amazing

JPI video - www.jpivideo.com
like kevin he was FABULOUS to work with and his videos are phenomenial

not only are the two of them really nice and pleasant, but they both seem really into their work.

plus their pricing is reasonable

From your list:

Spelman & Imagine are out of your price range of $5K for both photo & video. I didn't even meet with Imagine due to price. Spelman I couldn't afford.

Leli has some issues with timeliness after the wedding as well as customer service after the wedding. I know one couple that did not get their albums back for more than a year.

You have 3 Dan's on your list - whichever is the one on Laurel Road in Northport/East Northport - also out of your price range.

I used Velvet and I'm happy with the quality and quantity of pics I got. I do however wish I had put together a formal must take photo list.

I did not book Duet because they do not allow you to meet with the photographer that will be shooting your wedding until the day of.

I don't know any of the others on your list, but I hope this info is helpful. Good luck!!!

Fi and I are using Duet. We have a solid package for $5K, phototography and albums plus videography. Of the other ones you listed, we also saw Patken and Verdi. At Patken, the photographer I liked best was the owner, but he charges $2K more, so that would probably put you out of budget. Verdi, also on the high side, although we liked their work. Good luck!

I second Thomas Paul also. He is in your price range and you would get so much for your money. He's such a nice guy too!!

dEFINETELY think Silver Fox is worth looking at...IMO it comes down to budget and who you feel most comfortable with...remember they will be with you all day long!
