Make-up for asian brides

Make-up for asian brides

Does anyone have any info on people they have heard about or have used for asian brides? My fiancee is Chinese and my sister is Korean. They have a hard time finding some who can cut their hair so it compliments their features. Now with make-up for each of their weddings being a factor I'd like to help and surprise them by maybe paying for both.

Please feel free to reply here or FM me anytime.

Thanks for everyone's help

&

Best wishes for many years of happiness, health, and success,

Thomas

I recommend Wedding One. Their make-up and hair salon is called Beauty One. You can check them out at www.weddingone.com under 'Other Services'. Or call Beauty One at 718-939-3535. That's the Flushing location, but they got locations in Soho, NYC and Fort Lee, NJ. A little pricey, but worth it. My sister and cousin each used them for their respective weddings, and I will be continuing the tradition.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, I heard of that place, they've been around for a long time. What time do you need them to do makeup? Coz they will charge alot of money just to open up early to do makeup/hair.

Re: Make-up for asian brides

I personally used Beauty One (part of Wedding Group One) in Flushing and I recommend them highly - they are experts with Asian faces - but their price is hefty.

My sister tried out the Laura Geller Studio (http://www.laurageller.com ) and they did a very good job as well. I'm not sure of the pricing.

As for Shiseido, they have a studio in Soho where they offer make-up classes and other classes for free so you can learn how to use their products which is great. This has gotten to be so popular that it may be hard to make a reservation for the classes. You can get information online at http://www.sca.shiseido.com/.

Re: Make-up for asian brides

I got this information from this xanga site I read:
http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=weddingbee
If anyone wants to check out her site, I found it very useful! FYI: K-town refers to Koreatown, which is around 33rd St and 7th ave.

Quote:

I need to find a hairstylist for 7 and a make-up artist for 4 so I went on a cold call search today. In other words, I walked into random salons in K-town and met with the owners.

The first place I went to was the Kim Sun Young salon. This salon has two locations in Los Angeles and is quite reknown there. I know people that have raved about the Los Angeles salons, so I thought I'd give the one here a shot.

Kim Sun Young occupies two floors and is very nice and modern inside. I was surprised that the front desk clerk was a man with curly blonde hair and that half of the patrons were American. I met with the owner (who would be doing both the make-up and the hair). She had very short burgundy hair, was wearing orange lipstick, and was in her 50's. I just couldn't relate to her style and I couldn't see her doing my hair or make-up.

We chatted about the details and when I asked her what lines of make-up she used, she directed me to a counter upstairs and told me to have a look. Everything was Sebastian Trucco. I guess there's nothing wrong with that line, it's just that make-up artists usually use make-up from many different lines - choosing the best products and colors from each. You're so limited when you only work with one line. When I returned, she told me that there was no need to ask such silly questions like what line of make-up she used. That the name, size, quality of her salon spoke for itself. That I wouldn't be able to tell whether or not she were a good make-up artist based on anything she said. That I would have to make a decision based on the salon and the feeling I got from her. Well.... I was rather disappointed with everything overall. She made it clear that she wouldn't be hurting by losing my business or she thought she could land my business based on reputation alone. I'm sure she does fine work and has many satisfied clients, but I won't be one of them.

So the search continued and I went to the salon next door - the Hidy Hair Salon. They don't open on Saturdays but they recommended a woman at another salon across the street who does beautiful make-up and hair.

'Better than the Kim Sun Young salon?' I asked.

'Oh definitely,' she replied.

I crossed the street and entered the Kakaboka Salon. (What a name huh?) It was smaller than the previous two, and not as nice aesthetically, but I got a good vibe from the place. It was the busiest out of the three. I had to wait 15 minutes while the owner finished working on a client. There were even several male stylists (kinda rare in Korean salons). One of the male stylists finished cutting a client's hair while I was waiting, and it turned out really well. A good sign. The owner finally came over and apologized for my having to wait so long. We went over the details, and she took down notes. She asked questions, listened to what I wanted and was very nice and polite. She even gave me a discount because of the referral from the salon across the way. We were roughly the same age, and I could really relate to her style. I liked her and I liked her make-up. The good referral was a bonus.

I can definitely see her doing my hair and make-up so I'm scheduling a trial make-up run in January to see how I like it. And when I asked her what make-up lines she used, she gladly told me her favorites.
