Makeup Recommendations for Day-Of Needed!

My makeup artist recommended that I purchase a lipstick so I could re-apply throughout the day. I know nothing about makeup so I went to Ulta and I ended up purchasing a lip liner, which I was told I could use on my lips and serve as a lip stain, and lip gloss as recommended by a worker. It'll last for hours she said. WRONG! Tried it and it was off in an hour. Wasn't cheap either!

Anyone have recommendations for a long-lasting lipstick, gloss, stain...etc.?
