If someone invites you over to their home for dinner- you will bring a bottle of wine or dessert- correct?
If you are invited to a BBQ-you will bring some beer, soda or a dish correct?
I was always taught to never go anywhere emptyhanded.
Lately I have gone to these events and while I came bearing gifts others didn't.
Have things changed?

Re: Manners/upbringing
I never go anywhere without bringing something. I guess some people were never brought up with the right manners.

Re: Manners/upbringing
It's also called being a cheap A S S if you don't bring. There's this doofus in our circle of friends who NEVER brings anything but an empty stomach to any party. He'll chow down and look to take home leftovers but he'll never bring anything and he'll never reciprocate. I cut him off the guest list years ago because I got sick of him pulling this. He was at a party a few years ago and asked if he could have a Tylenol. I went to turn around and he was emptying the bottle into his pocket. I asked him what the H E L L he was doing. He was like 'Oh, yeah, what a dumb idea. Do you have a ziplock? I don't have any Tylenol at home'. Idiot!!

SHAMEE !!! LMAO !!!!!
I ALWAYS bring something. I also NEVER go empty handed. Even if its a homemade cake or ice cream or little toys for the kids.
With my siblings, if we just drop by for coffee on a regular nite at eachothers houses we might not bring anything at all, or we can say 'I have cake from the party this weekend, want some' we just have that type of relationship...

Re: Manners/upbringing
Even when john Anthony and I go to playgroups, especially at someones house, I bring something. Just because that mom is hosting a playgroup, doesnt mean she has to do all the lunch prep! I always bring a dessert. All the other moms dont seem to always bring...

Re: Manners/upbringing
I always bring something even if the hostess tells me not too. Usually its a bottle of wine or some type of dessert. If the hostess is insisting though she/he needs nothing then I'd usually bring flowers or a plant.

Shamee - OMG!
We also never go anywhere empty handed. Even when people say not to bring anything we always bring at least a bottle of wine. Even if they don't need it that day, they can use it another time
