Mansion help!
Hello everyone & congrats! I am new to this and just started wedding planning! I got engaged 2 months ago and finally am starting to look at some stuff and am totally overwhelmed. All I know is I don't want your typical LI reception hall. Does anyone have any suggestions & prices for mansions on Long Island?Thank you!!

Re: Venue Help! Unique Venue
I've heard good thing about De Seversky and Bourne. I don't have pricing though sorry. I think w/ the first one it's max 150 people - I believe it's on the smaller side. Good Luck! Happy Planning

Re: Venue Help! Unique Venue
I am getting married at the Royalton Mansion in Roslyn, I went to see most of the mansion on LI and this was my favorite. Its more of a colonial style mansion rather then a castle but it is well maintained and I'm a big fan of the food. HTH

Re: Mansion help!
I went into Queens to find my idea 'Mansion' - I looked at a few, but fell in love with Douglaston Manor for its very Spanish manor/ estate like feel.
It's got the wide open ceilings with exposed wood beams, candelabras and dark oaks with tiled floors, fireplaces, wall scones and tapestries.
If it sounds somewhat like the look/feel you are going for - feel free to Fm.

Re: Mansion help!
We went to see the Glen Cove Mansion, de Seversky Mansion, the Mansion at Woodside Acres, and the Woodlands. I have quotes for Saturday nights during peak season. FM me if you would like info about any of these.

Re: Mansion help!
Tell me about Bourne Mansion. I went to see de seversky and loved it. mainly because its not 'typical'. it's a little small so i want to look at another mansion.

this!! i went to see deseversky, woodlands and oheka as well...i wanted to see the bourne but out of principle their phone call with me was very uninviting and i refused to give them the time of day because thats the feeling i got from them...Deseversky is gorgeous, but for the size of my wedding, i didnt want dinner and dancing in separate rooms...royalton hit all my wants and needs, the people are fantastic to work with and the food has an irrefutable reputation...it was btw there and the woodlands but ultimately i felt the woodslands room was a little more outdated and dark and the dance floor seemed small to me...royalton has a very clean palate of neutral colors, very bright

Mansion help!
The only Mansion we looked at was the Woodlands. It was very nice, the people seemed nice, and reasonable in price (no site fee, I think this is one of the only LI Mansions w/o a site fee) - my only critique (and call me crazy), but I thought it needed some TLC / maintenance, the wallpaper was pealing in certain places, and I saw some stains on the carpet and ceiling. This was in April so there is a good chance they fixed it up since then. But it just rubbed me the wrong way because there was an event going on when we were viewing the space and I know if I saw stains and pealing wallpaper on my day i'd be upset, but I am a bit neurotic!

I looked at Bourne, de seversky, glen cove and woodlands. Bourne was pretty but expensive and the ballroom is huge. It would be good for a 250+ wedding but if you have less it might look sparse. De seversky was amazing but we too decided we didn't want to do dinner and dancing in 2 different rooms. Glen cove mansion was really dated... The ballroom carpet is like a rainbow of colors and would clash if you don't choose the right colors for your theme. It's shaped weirdly too. The entire place smelled like 'old' which totally turned us off.We ended up falling in love with the Woodlands. The original owner imported the wood walls from a castle in Ireland. It's true that the ballroom is shaped like a rectangle and the dance floor isn't huge but it's adequate and the patio is great. The decor is classy and very 1920's, especially the checkered floor in the hall. The pub room is adorable and classic. We couldn't be happier with our choice.

Bourne Mansion ladies - have you heard anything about the acoustics being a little 'off' in the ballroom?

I totally agree with what you said!
I didn't go to Bourne bc its way too far from my family's church. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Re: Mansion help!
just posted this in brides helping brides as well in re Bourne...from what i've heard that was from when the organ was there.. now that they took the organ out, it is better. however, i did talk to my dj about this (bravura), and they have worked at the bourne before and said they will be bringing the appropriate equipment to make sure there is no echo (i believe they have a separate sound person if i remember correctly-don't have my contract handy at the moment tho)

I totally agree with everything you said! We knew we wanted a mansion, so we exhausted all of our mansion options...we ended up choosing the Woodlands for so many reasons, but mostly because it felt warm and inviting but at the same time very elegant and classic. Ever since, I've been trying to find ideas on how to personalize it..EAY - we should chat about our different ideas! Anyway, I have quotes for both fridays and saturday nights..FM me if you'd like to know..
