There was a question as to whether it had any health benefits. I was trying to answer. Guess I didn't do a good job.

Sorry if i am missing your point

Morphine helps cancer patients doesn't mean it should be legalized either

In the case of cancer, it isn't just to numb the pain. There are some exciting (but preliminary) studies that show that some of the compounds in marijuana have anti-cancer properties - that is, they can treat or possibly even prevent cancer.

This is interesting, I was under the impression that all it did was stimulate the appetite after chemo.

I agree with the recreational part...still sort of up in the air on the medicinal part...need more info on that.

I don't see you as combative..we're having a discussion.

I just think marijuana is no worsew than alcohol and tobacco...and illegalizing it causes more problems than legalizing it

No worries, it was just a wild tangent anyway.

I do agree with you about making regular cigarettes illegal...

Even if it did only stimulate the appetite after chemo, or help FH's grandma fgeel less pain so she could eat, ti would have given her more time to live and be alive because she eventually died from not eating.

Then again, the reason she didn't smoke it was because she didn't want to, not because it's illegal, mj is easy enough to obtain...

but still, in some cases, it can have enormous benefit. It would have probably added time to her life.

Right now I say I don't care whether it is or not.

But I can't say how I would truly feel about it unless it actually DID happen.

legalize it or at least lessen the laws if caught with it..no one should go to jail or have to add that arrest to a job application..getting caught with it should be a minor fine, like a driving ticket..I have never heard of anyone having an abusive pothead dad...compared to abusive alcoholic dads..it is a personal choice.

I would love to make cigarettes illegal

LOVE it!

I've seen so many lives destroyed by alcohol, that maybe illegalizing it wouldn't be a bad idea, but I love alcohol and don't abuse it...

I think people with addictive personalities will find something to be addicted to no matter what....

I hate cigarettes..they smell awful, they make me so sick. FH's dad is a heavy smoker, and when FH moved into his new apartment I had to wash all of his clothes 4 times to get the smell out...and everything has to e scrubbed..and he has to keep his books separate form mine because they all stink. I can't even go to his dad's house, I get So sick

Re: Marijuana- Should it be legalized?

Got this info from the NIDA - National Institute of Drug Addiction..

Workers who smoke marijuana are more likely than their co-workers to have problems on the job. Several studies have associated workers' marijuana smoking with increased absences, tardiness, accidents, workers' compensation claims, and job turnover. A study among municipal workers found that employees who smoked marijuana on or off the job reported more 'withdrawal behaviors' - such as leaving work without permission, daydreaming, spending work time on personal matters, and shirking tasks - that adversely affect productivity and morale.
Depression, anxiety, and personality disturbances are all associated with marijuana use. Research clearly demonstrates that marijuana use has the potential to cause problems in daily life or make a person's existing problems worse. Because marijuana compromises the ability to learn and remember information, the more a person uses marijuana the more he or she is likely to fall behind in accumulating intellectual, job, or social skills. Moreover, research has shown that marijuana's adverse impact on memory and learning can last for days or weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off.
For example, a study of 129 college students found that among heavy users of marijuana, those who smoked the drug at least 27 of the preceding 30 days, critical skills related to attention, memory, and learning were significantly impaired, even after they had not used the drug for at least 24 hours. The heavy marijuana users in the study had more trouble sustaining and shifting their attention and in registering, organizing, and using information than did the study participants who had used marijuana no more than 3 of the previous 30 days. As a result, someone who smokes marijuana once daily may be functioning at a reduced intellectual level all of the time.

Long-term marijuana use can lead to addiction for some people; that is, they use the drug compulsively even though it often interferes with family, school, work, and recreational activities.
Along with craving, withdrawal symptoms can make it hard for long-term marijuana smokers to stop using the drug. People trying to quit report irritability, difficulty sleeping, and anxiety. They also display increased aggression on psychological tests, peaking approximately 1 week after they last used the drug

Re: Marijuana- Should it be legalized?

I just don't know. I remeber I was like 5, and my aunt's boyfrned smoked and I said 'do cigarettes taste good?' and she said 'no' and I said 'why do people smoke them' She said 'i don't know. they're stupid'...

It's funny, me and FH would break up if either one of us started smoking.
