Even if it did only stimulate the appetite after chemo, or help FH's grandma fgeel less pain so she could eat, ti would have given her more time to live and be alive because she eventually died from not eating.
Then again, the reason she didn't smoke it was because she didn't want to, not because it's illegal, mj is easy enough to obtain...
but still, in some cases, it can have enormous benefit. It would have probably added time to her life.
I'm sorry about your FH's grandmother.
I got to see what pancreatic cancer did to my dad up close. If Marijuana was made available to my father, earlier on in his disease - it might have made a difference and prolonged his life. I know in the end, although he wouldn't/couldn't eat - it wasn't because of a lack of appetite, it was because his body was shutting down. Even morphine at that point was ineffective.

like stomache cancer, pancreatic cancer is the most painful types of cancers...
Morphine didn't help his pain? I am shocked... It helped my grandfather!

yes, pancreatic is one of the most painful and also the second most deadly (second to lung cancer).
I'm not saying that I don't see the medical benefits to marijuana - I just think that instead of legalizing it, the FDA should just isolate the component(s) involved and make a pill. Especially, with cancer patients - they already go thru the hallucenogenic side effects of morphine, they don't need anything to exacerbate them.

I guess I can see where you are coming from here but I disagree. Look at all the drugs on the market now, their side effect list is 10 times as long as the list of benifits. Why make a chemically altered version of something that nature has already made available?

I agree with that. They don't need all that other stuff in mj - just give them the stuff that works to keep their cancer in check.
Still, I just don't understand why mj is illegal but cigarettes and alcohol are so socially acceptable. Legalize all or none.

One word, Penicillin. The next time you (a general you - I want to keep this friendly ) have to have oral surgery would you prefer to eat a slice of moldy bread or just take the script your dentist gave you? With the FDA making a pill form, there would be limits set forth as to how much of one component there can be in a dosage and with Marijuana especially, you can eliminate the method of delivery.

What about the damage it does to your lungs/brain cells? How can that be good? What about 2nd hand smoke????
this is true
and i go there and say that i think cigarettes should be ILLEGAL!
i'm soooo with you on this. at one point, everyone in my house, except me, smoked. i cannot stand the smell and to breathe it in at night when i am sleeping, was the worst. my mom and sister quit, and my brother moved out so its only my dad now. and he will usually go outside. but its gross and its bad for everyone to be around

What I was trying to say was: A chemically altered version is bound to have a longer list of side effects then something that is already available in nature.
I agree that as long as a cancer patient is getting something that helps relieve their discomfort it is a good thing. However, a drug is not helpful if it causes other issues.

Re: Marijuana- Should it be legalized?
Yes, I saw your point, and I responded.
Pencillin occurs naturally, too. But not many people prefer to eat mold bread. Other than the obvious reason, ewwww - there are also other variables to consider involved in the process. It's most doctors' long standing argument against herbal supplements. There is no regulation right now as to how much of what herbs get into the supplement. There are also growing conditions involved.
If the FDA was involved in the cultivation and then process of a pill form a lot of these variables would be eliminated. I'm not saying it won't open other possibilities to side effects, but I am saying that even nature isn't perfect. You would, however, be able to ensure that patient was getting the proper amount of the component, not so - with marijuana's conventional form.

Thanks for the preface. I wouldn't have taken it personally though.
I agree with the point of taking a pill rather than eating moldy bread.
I do not however agree with 'With the FDA making a pill form, there would be limits set forth as to how much of one component there can be in a dosage and with Marijuana' I think that Vioxx is a great example of the way the FDA sets limits and regulations on drugs. Precription drugs are a big money business the drug companies have way to much influence on the FDA.

Yes, I understand your reasoning.
Corruption, while related , is another topic entirely.

People who would be stupid enough t get high and drive are the same people are who are stupid enough to get drunk and drive as it is...
I know where this statement is trying to go, but it's incorrect. I've known plenty of people who won't touch cigarettes or alcohol -- but they are the first to light up a joint. By legalizing marijuana for recreational use, you are definitely going to add to the pool of people who will drive under the influence. Not everyone who drinks smokes weed and vice versa. People who aren't attracted to alcohol or cigarettes as recreational drugs now, may decide to try (and then end up liking) marijuana simply because it's legal and readily available.

Slightly off the subject but here is the link for the RAND Drug Policy Research Center's website.
Didn't have time to look through everything but it looked like it had some interesting info.

But it's a hallucenogenic drug...look at what happens when someone drinks and gets behind the wheel...imagine being stoned, and then trying to drive!!??
Ummmm, marijuana IS NOT a hallucinogenic drug, I don't know where that information is from. Anyway, I was the first to say I think it should be legalized and here's my standpoint on it. I do NOT believe that pot is detrimental, and I fully understand that some people may not agree with me. I do NOT believe that pot is a 'gateway' drug. Some people are more likely than others to experiment and pot has nothing to do with it. I smoked plenty of pot when I was younger and it didn't lead me to doing any other drugs. I do NOT believe it will become and epidemic if lagalized. The fact of the matter is, whoever doesn't smoke pot now, is not going to miraculously decide that since it's legal they're going to be pothads. Whoever is going to smoke is going to do so whether it's legal or not.

Re: Marijuana- Should it be legalized?
I'm a few post behind, but Fh's grandma had pancreatic cancer. She died so quickly. I was awful. I'm so sorry.
Cancer is an awful thing to have to go through and it's so scary.
It is not technically a hallucenogen, but it can have those effects.
The effects of marijuana vary with its strength and dosage and with the state of mind of the user. Typically, small doses result in a feeling of well-being. The intoxication lasts two to three hours, but accompanying effects on motor control last much longer. High doses can cause tachycardia, paranoia, and delusions. Although it produces some of the same effects as hallucinogens like LSD and mescaline (heightened sensitivity to colors, shapes, music, and other stimuli and distortion of the sense of time), marijuana differs chemically and pharmacologically.

I agree with you 100%. And I have to add that before my father died from cancer he did smoke marijuana. It helped with the nausea from the chemo. At this point he had a feeding tube so he couldn't eat anyway. But I must say that the pot did help him become a little more relaxed in his final days. And it killed me that he had to acquire the drug illegally. I'm for the legalization....medicinally and recreationally.
