That isn't really true that if it were so useful it would be used medicinally. There is SUCH a HUGE stigma abour marijuana in our country, and I think it's undeserved. Have you ever seen Reefer Madness? Wackos in the 30's started telling churhc groups it would make everyone commit these horrible immoral acts and stuff. So I don't think it was illegalized with good merit, i think it was illegalized based on fear and a false stigma... I haven't done extensive research on this though..so I'm not 100% sure how the events played out.

well like i said above my concern isn't so much it benefits on our health...but on our society...

If it really helps out eye issues...then so be it. I don't think it should be legalized

What about the people that have tried everything else, to no avail? Why shouldn't we be trying to come up with other solutions? The point is to get rid of the cancer, period. Why should it matter how it happens?

What are you talking about ...it is used as a preventitive measure or as a reqactive measure???

You are confusing me

Jen - I agree with all your comments and would like to add:

During the period of prohibition there was a larger consumption of alcohol, than during any other period in history. It's human nature to want what you can't have.

In countries such as Amsterdam where Marijuana and even more potent and additive drugs such as Heroin are legal, there is hardly any crime or disease associated with drug usage. The government regulation allows for a much safer environment.

I don't know..I think if a loved one of mine had cancer, I'd want to do ANYTHING it would take to make him or her feel better or get better. When FH's grandmother was dying of cancer, her doctor actually sort of suggested on the sly that she smoke a joint or two every day... haha

Oh, and I have to add, that I have never een smoked marijuana...so I'm not advocating it so I can go out and smoke it in public or anything... I just think it's interesting

I have A LOT of loved ones have cancer and IT IS USED

TRUST ME...with all my personal dealings with cancer if i thought for a second that by smoking it would stop the effects of cancer spreading...I WOULD BE RIGHT THERE WITH YA
But it doesn't

I am talking about beyond pain managment here. I am saying that with more research it could be both prevention and therapy. But b/c of the stigma with using an illegal substance as a research tool, scientists can't be doing all of the research that is needed.

LOOK at all the problems we have regulating alcohol....
I don't think we need another drug out there to add to the problems

Both are and will be abused

I completely agree!!

I'm just saying that we don't know that yet. There is a small bit of evidence suggesting that it could stop the effects of cancer.

morphine works much better as far as pain is concerned anyway!

Researchers can and do use marijuana with cancer...

that has nothing to do with legalizing it

Okay, I see where we're not understanding each other.

Right now, it is used for pain management in cancer patients.

In the future, with more research, it could turn out to be a preventitive measure or treatment.

Doctors do not suggest marijuana to stop the spread of cancer. The suggested use is to control the nausea associated with Chemotherapy and for pain relief.

There was a question as to whether it had any health benefits. I was trying to answer. Guess I didn't do a good job.
