First let me state who I AM: Sgt Luginbuhl, Todd L USMC Active Duty Infantry Completed 2 tours in Iraq since 2003 Recently back from 7 month tour in Fallujah, Iraq
Now on to your new 'photo' of our Commander in Chief as the main page to your website, which I noticed after seeing the 'photo' on T.V. tonight. YOU DISGUST ME. WHO gave you the right to use those photos of fallen brothers in a political and ANTI-American theme? Where do you get off? I am unaware if you have ever served, nor do I think if you had, that you have ever seen combat.
Have you ever looked into the eyes of a dying man? Well I have, and let me tell you the last thing he would have said was, 'Tell Michael Moore to use my face to disgrace the President'.
He probably would have said, 'My life is ending, but our cause to restore a nation, and make it democratic is real, and TRUE'. Why don't you go over to Iraq and ask those Marines in Fallujah? Ask them what they think, why
they think they should be there. They would tell you something like this...'If we didn't fight the terrorists there in Fallujah, we would fight them here in America'. Or that these Terrorists that plague Iraq, are the only thing that stands in the way of freedom for the people of Iraq. And we are PROUD to SERVE TO MAKE THIS COUNTRY FREE WHATEVER THE COST!
Michael, understand this, Marines do a job that is not pretty and not easy, but as the late great President Ronald Reagan stated: 'Some people go their whole lives wondering if they made a difference in the world, MARINES don't have that problem.' We do a dirty job, and we do it for the greater good of America and the WORLD... Not because we don't like a particular person or leader. Something you could learn much from.
Remember this: 2,752 CIVILIANS died in an attack on AMERICA'S soil in one morning on September 11, 2001. Saddam Hussein killed HUNDRED of THOUSANDS of Iraqi *****e's in the late 90's to stop them from overturning his dictatorship. Total deaths in the war in Iraq are just over 1000, and we have been fighting for over a year and a half. How many CIVILIAN LIVES have been saved???
You never will be able to answer that question. If a brother can't walk, you push his wheelchair. If a fellow country needs help, you go in to help them as we have and ARE doing. You may think we are not helping them, but we are doing far more FOR that country than any reporter ever has stated. It is because of the liberal slant the media is putting on Iraq that you may never fully understand what is REALLY going on over there. The FACT is, AMERICA needs us in IRAQ. America also needs, and (as the over 59 Million votes state) WANTS BUSH TO LEAD THIS GREAT COUNTRY. Come to think of it, until America went into IRAQ, any Iraqi who showed the same amount of disrespect for his country and his countries leader would have been shot in the street... odd how the freedoms you take for granted are the same ones you want us to deny others.
Okay...Just one thing.it's not his photo..I believe it's a washington post photo..this disgrunteld marine should take it up with them.
ETA: I also want to say that the photo is not at all anti-american, and I'm sick of people (not you lilqt, you idn't write it) accusing other people of being 'un american'

Re: marine's letter to micheal moore
I disagree so fundamentally that I wouldn;t know where to begin, and it's really not worth getting into. Lilqtny' s FH is a marine and she has really strong feelings about that. I have really strong feelings about the war, and I don't want lilqtny to feel offended or hurt by what I have to say about the war her man is fighting. We've been there and done that and I don't want to go there again. I was just pointing out something about the pic.

His emotions are valid because they are his emotions. He is entitled to feel that way.
However, he is writing the letter to the wrong person, plain and simple - I think that is all marymoon meant to comment on.

Re: marine's letter to micheal moore
there is a reason why military and civilians are different..we dont just see the news..we live it so that may be a reason why you will find that the majority of the military have differeing views than their families.

Re: marine's letter to micheal moore
You don't have to agree w/ the WAR to SUPPORT and APPRECIATE and RESPECT the men and women who are there fighting it. - GIVING UP THEIR LIVES for it ! - They are our Military - w/o them this country is NOTHING. - Not rich, not powerful, not existing as we know it
ANYONE who can not see the importance of those troops should be ashamed of themselves. - You want to disagree w/ the war ? Fine, - I disagree w/ it too - But DO NOT disrepsct a Marine !!

Re: marine's letter to micheal moore
Marisa..thank you.
You know what some of our troops biggest fear is..that when they return they will not get the respect they deserve.
Thanks for posting lilqtny, that letter was excellent.
thanks egora and as for anyone who feels my post was directed toward them, it was not. I was on the military wives support forum and someone shared it I just copied it pasted it here, haven't really read these board since early this morning. and YES LILQTNY FH is MARINE and she is DAMN PROUD, OHHH RAAHHHH!!!!!! and thanks for not wanting to offend me or my man i was only sharing I haven't seen a post about this pic before.
oh and the strong emotions part was right too, it was just something I thought I'd share but everyone on this board has to jump on it and get defensive I'm glad you enjoyed it egora!

Re: marine's letter to micheal moore
The things is that yes many soliders fighting support the war...MANY do not, but you are not going to hear too much from them..why because how would it look to complain about defending their country?
When people sign up to defend the country, they do it assuming it will be when neccesary, but itf it's not neccesary, they dont have a choice..they go.
I have family members in Iraq and the word is that yes, many people are defending this country with pride( though its debatable it we need defending from Iraq) but they also state many many soliders are disheartened, dont believe in what they are doing etc...and I feel bad and respect ALL of them.

Actually I can interject some light on this..while in basic training you have classes and it is UNDERSTOOD that you may be called upon to fight for a cause you personally do not believe in or even against your home country for those who are immigrants. So the uninformed excuse doesnt fly anymore..The one area where you cna get duped is in which MOS you will have (JOB) the military has been known to promise that you can fly planes etc but unless you get that in writng..you can get screwed.

Re: marine's letter to micheal moore
Yeo..and that's why I didn;t go into my anti war stance, etc and why I disagreed with some of the things the letter write was saying ..because I respect everyone in the armed forces, and it's not about how I feel about the war. I don't need to keep throwing that in lilqtny's face. She knows too much about the war as it is. And I don't want to show anything but respect for her FH.
The letter is I think misdirected, and I think it IS honoring the troops in its own way, saying we wish they didn't ahve to die, and placing blame, whter you agree with it or not. A lot of people believe Bush has blood on his hands, not because they disrect our soldiers at all, but because they feel saddened and angry that so many young men and women have to be put in that situation and god forbid, die. It's showing support for the troops, not everyone agrees with that tactic. I for one, won't put a yellow ribbon on my car, but it dones't mean I don't support the troops, and some people find the bush photo offensive, and that doens't mean they don't support the troops, it's just two different mindsets. I think the important thing is that both our troops and the iraqi people are given due respect and that all of them are returned to peace, safety and stability as soon as possible.

I think even though you're told you could go into combat, I still think a lot of people probably don't realize that they will have to go, and a lot of people join for the GI bill, etc. it doens't mean they're stupid. They signed up as adults knowing what the consequences would be, but still...

Re: marine's letter to micheal moore
Marymoon..there is no but still.. you are either informed or NOT. Some people just feel they will never see combat and thats thier issue..and unfortunately..yes the GIBILL and other benefits are enticing but you still have to make a decision wether you can handle certain aspects of the military that may not be to your liking.

Re: marine's letter to micheal moore
Yep. It is their issue. I don't think they're ever uninformed about the possibility fo going to war, I jst think some people don't believe it. But that's definitely their problem
ETA: There are also people who really don't have another choice other than thae army to 'make it', or they feel its their only choice, etc... I know several people for whom that was the case...But still they signed on the dotted line. My issue is sending people when it's not 100% necessary. But I don't get to make those decisions

Re: marine's letter to micheal moore
I think thats the hardest aspect for people to realize about the military..certain things are just not your decision. And you have to be prepared mentally just as much as physically.
Trust me..you go in weak but you come out strong..also this war is a reality check. As I said before..many people have some sheltered ideas as to how we became a super power.

I think (actually I KNOW) it is possible to love and support our troops but not support the war.
