Mark Kaufman vs. Visual Concepts Photography?

Hello everyone,

I am currently debating which of the above photographers I should go with for our wedding.

I met with Mark Kaufman recently and he seemed slightly abrupt, and I felt like I was getting the run around from him, but my sister thinks he's just flaky. But, his work is excellent.

I also met with Visual Concepts in Islip - same caliber photography, but they are SOOOO nice - however they are almost 2k more than Mark Kaufman.

Has anyone used either of these photographers? And if so, what are your opinions?

I have to say - I am going w. this guy Jack Roman - he's an independent photographer. Only black and white - but I talked to Mark Kaufman and he sent me a video and though his work looked nice, the sales pressure was not my style. He called me EVERY day at work. I explained to him that I was doing more research, and he just wouldn't stop. Until finally, I sent back his video with a note that we wouldnt' be using him. I felt badly, but he didnt' want to give me the chance to think anything over. AND - this was back in January! My wedding isn't until November. And my guess is he's probably still not booked for that date. I just felt like he was rushing me. He even told me I didn't need to come in for an appt. - that the video was sufficient.....just not my style I guess. But his pictures are lovely.

I am using Roy and Lynn from Mark's studio. I think Mark is very helpful and I have never gotten the run around from him. He is honest about prices, and I was able to customize my package to what I need. And he will not be shooting your wedding so you don't have to love him anyway.

I spoke with Visual Concepts and there work is very nice, although I (JMO) like Mark's better. Funny thing is they quoted me the SAME price as Mark for what I wanted, without knowing Mark's quote ahead of time. I am shocked they are so expensive. IMO they are not worth $2K more. Again JMO.

I don't know anything about Visual Concepts but I am really happy that I booked Marks studio.

I have posted all over this board about how the quality of their work and customer service so I won't reiterate here but just do a search.

My wedding is not until Oct so I can't comment on those photos but I was really happy with our engagement photos despite the fact that we made our appt on the fly, it was raining and freezing and we are WORSE subjects :D

I booked Visual Concepts for my October wedding. They are very nice. I took my engagement picture in November and they are very good. Very easy going. They are expensive but to me they are worth it. Hope this helps.
