I am pretty sure within 60 of the wedding date. It is invalid after the 60 days.

some places require a birth certificate and driver's lisence, but some (like the town of hempstead) require 2 forms of photo id- passport and driver's lisence

We each brought a passport and a drivers license to the Town Hall at the Town of North Hempstead. You will need your marriage license with the stamp on it to change your name at Social Security which I am happily doing on THURSDAY!

ETA:

We did NOT bring nor were we asked for a birth certificate. If we didnt have a passport, I venture to say we would have needed a birth certificate.

Town of Islip told me that I need to bring driver's license and original birth certificate with seal. you have to go within 60 days of the date of the wedding. it costs $40 and you both have to be present at the same time. Oh and they are only open m-f 8-4:30.
