do you need to do blood tests or anything before? or do you just go to town hall with the proper ID and get it?
sorry for my silly question.

Oh, and I don't know about LI, but in the city we need to have a $35 money order....you might want to check about that and make sure.

yup--blood tests are a thing of the past.
it seems when you go to the 5 boroughs of NYC--you just need a license. but if you go to long island places--they want both original birth certificate and license.
ETA: forgot to say we did it at islip town hall--$40 cash

Re: marriage license question
long island does not require blood tests and you can pay via personal check. It's 40 dollars and is good for 3 months from the day AFTER you pick it up. It is NOT good the DAY OF.

my mom had to do it like 3 decades ago--i think to ensure that the couple weren't carrying any blood borne diseases/infections that they could pass onto each other or offspring? i feel like googling it!
ETA: this is from wikipedia:
Many U.S. states require a waiting period of 1-6 days, and some still require verification via blood testing that the applicants are not carrying syphilis, a sexually-transmitted disease. However, a number of states have recently eliminated the blood test requirement.

Re: marriage license question
Where exactly do you have to go to get the license? Does it matter which town hall (like the bride's or the groom's)? Is it a town hall or a state office (like in Hauppauge). I am confused!

Oh okay, I had a feeling that was it, but I wondered why that was a requirement? Would you not be allowed to be married if something came up in one of the tests?? I'm j/k, I guess it's because both people have the right to know if their partner might be carrying anything before they get married...

you can go to any town hall in the entire state.
like Town of Islip, Babylon, Port Jefferson, Brookhaven, etc.
i think there was a link that had their addresses one time. lemme find it.

This is really funny, I had no idea why the blood test was required but as an obnoxious response I was going to say to determine that no one has syphilis, it's really funny that that is actually the reason! I believe they did away with the blood tests because not many people are 'pure' on their wedding day

you can go to any town hall. I just found out there is one in Massapequa, that I never knew about. It's on Hicksville Road if anyone is close to that!
