before u get married u have to go get a marriage license..right?
what documents do u need? once u apply at the place.. what happens? do they send u something in the mail? or do they give u papers?
we are both clueless

they give it to you right there.
you need your driver's license or passport AND your birth certificate.

If you're going in 5 boroughs... you only need your license.
They give you a paper you give to the priest... usually during your rehearsal.
He sends it in... it takes approx 2 weeks to get the license...
We got ours already, it came while we were on our HM.

ask the priest when they need it. he will have to sign it. i think sometimes they fill it out before the ceremony then sign it right after or something. ask what he prefers.
i dont think you can give him a copy though. all the signing would need to be on the original copy?

you mean that AFTER the wedding when the priest sent it in it came back to you in 2 weeks right?

yes you will get your marriage license right away. yes, you have to trust them with it and you gotta give the original cuz they sign off on it along with the witness (s) the day you get married. then they send it in to the state and the state will send you, your actual marriage certificate a few weeks later.
but yes make a copy of the marriage license when you get it, before you give them the original, i would also ask for a copy of the signed one with the priest and the witness sigs before you leave that day

You get it right there. In Queens you only need license or passport. One form of ID. I went with DIno to get our domestic partnership so he can get on my insurance. It's the same thing. Very simple. You can fill out the paperwork online to speed up the process. You get the papers right then and there.

Just remember you have to go and get it with at least 24 hours left until your wedding. Thats the only rule NY has. so you have until the day before your wedding to go to the town :)
