Marriage proposal at a wedding??

My cousin got married this past Saturday. During the reception, one of her guy friends gets the microphone from the DJ and proposes to his girlfriends right there on the dance floor.

I don't think I'd be too thrilled if someone did that at my wedding, but I wouldn't let it ruin my day either. I don't know how I'd feel if my FH proposed like that.

I think that's SO disrespectful and it's almost like trying to steal their thunder.. That would piss me off royally...

I'd be totally angry. Its probably one of the few thigns that would really bother me, esp if I didn tknow about it in advance.

Trying to steal the 'thunder' is making the proposal into a big production. You dont know what conversations are lead during your wedding....ours happen to be popping the question. I guess I find myself stressing over more important things than this, but yea I agree I would be pissed off if its a moment that got everyones attention.

I think it is only ok if the bride and groom are in on it and are OK with it. I know there will be a lot of brides and grooms who would justifiably be very unhappy with that. I think I'd be OK with it only with certain people. If my sister's BF wanted to propose to her at my wedding I'd be thrilled - if some distant friend had her BF propose, I would probably not be OK with it.

and then the girl swooning and then all the guests clapping and hugging and congratulating the couple for the rest of the evening

yours was an intimate personal moment!! no attention was recklessly stolen from teh B&G!

That's pretty much how it went down...minus the guests clapping and congratulating the couple. It was really weird. Sort of a quiet clap here and there, with everyone in my family looking at each other with puzzled looks.

I think that if my very best friend's fiance or if my brothers wanted to do something like that, I'd be OK with it as long as they asked me first and did it towards the end of the night...maybe a special dance before the last dance or something. Anyone else, I'd be pissed!

ACTUALLY I would love for my brother to ask his GF/ my BM before the last dance, FH & I could thank everyone for coming and ask my Brother & His GF/BM to come up - Brother would propose GF/BM would say YES (they are shopping now ) Then FH & I could thank my Brother for giving us the best wedding gift ever Annie as our SIL

I totally see how this would be considered rude and inapropriate and even inconsiderate. However, if somebody asked me if they could propose at my wedding I would totally say yes. I've already found my happyness...why not let somebody else have a shot at theirs. if they didn't ask and just did it I would either think they were drunk and caught in the moment...or jealous for the spotlight...but again...I already have my happiness so I wouldn't let it get to me.

I just read this post to FH and the first thing out of his mouth was 'i'd f*ckin kill him' lol
I agree it is tacky and inconsiderate. Someone waits their whole life for this one day..a whole 5 hrs of celebration and they choose to pick that particular day to propose...I would not be happy
