Married Girls - Different Ideas That Were a Hit!

Married Girls - Different Ideas That Were a Hit!

Okay - so based on another thread here, i figured i'd start this one...

Girls who have already been married - what are the fun & funky things you did at your wedding that were a complete hit???

1. We used 'nicknames' on our inner envelopes as opposed to Mr. & Mrs. People got a kick out of seeing their nicknames & realized they weren't in for a very FORMAL wedding.

2. We used VERY different songs for our entrance into the ceremony.

Dave and his Best Man walked into the 'Simpsons Theme Song'. The rest of the Bridal Party walked into, 'Somebody's Getitng Married' from the muppets. Once people heard the cartoon sounds, there was a HUGE laugh & everyone just kinda relaxed...

3. We used the Guestbook Store for our guestbook and Dave & I STILL laugh at the pages we have filled in from everyone (love them so much, i'm using them at my MOH's baby shower too)! http://www.guestbookstore.com/

4. Had a candy bar - HUGE hit!!!!!!

5. Instead of tossing a boquet, I presented single roses to all of the single girls at the wedding (there weren't many) and told them that I loved them and wished them happiness. I personally felt that tossing a boquet to people not married really just singles people out & makes them feel weird...

What did everyone else do that was great?

#4- Sushi at the cocktail hour was awesome

#5 had candle centerpieces

# 6- had special entrance songs for parts of our bridal party

what a nice idea! Impractical for us since FH and I are the first on each side of our families, and the first of our friends (with the exception of one couple getting married 2 weeks before us) to be getting married so we'd need TONS of roses, but I'm sure your guests really appreciated that

Totally forgot:

I wore red shoes underneath my dress until I changed into sneakers that matched Dave's.

Dave wore Steelers sneakers for the whole day.

The GM all wore converse sneakers (that they still wear to this day).

The GM all wore their fave football team's ties. That was a surprise for Dave - he LOVED it!

Dave wore a Steelers Superbowl tie.

Ooh I love this thread!

- The guestbook from the Guestbook Store was a HUGE hit (they really loved it and it was very unique!)

- Our entrance song (was 'Dead Skin Mask' by Slayer- imagine that while coming up from the middle of the dance floor in a elevator with lights and smoke effects

- Our BP songs- diffrent songs for each- they really loved what we picked for them

- The OOT boxes that I had ordered from this site:
OOT Boxes

- Our wine bottle favors were also a huge hit with the guests.. some tried to take more than one per couple and sneaked a few of our extras out the RH at the end of the evening.

-DH personally love the NY Jets garter I had on that day too- the look on his face was priceless when he took it off my leg.

Re: Married Girls - Different Ideas That Were a Hit!

- I wore Doc Marten boots under my dress, people kept asking to take pictures of my feet!

- we hand candle centerpieces, not that it's 'different' really, but people loved them and fighting over them at the end of the night.

- We entered the reception to the Star Wars Disco Theme, people loved it. The band actually did the 'a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away' but changed it to, not too long ago, in a church not too far away etc...'

- Our first dance was a 'surprise' dance, we started off with 'Storybook Love' from Princess Bride and had the dj 'skip' and start playing Apache and we did the dance from the Fresh Prince. That got a HUGE response, people loved it and it set the tone for the rest of the night.

- DH hid items under my chair for the garter toss. I had no idea he planned on doing it or what he planned on using so i was just as surprised as everyone else. He even wore one of those headlamp flash light things. He pulled out an umbrella, giant rubber chicken, hulla girl, ping pong balls...and other things that i can't quite remember.

-candy buffet

-our zombie cake topper and machette cake cutter were a huge hit.

-the music... we had an eclectic and 'fun' playlist. The mixing the 6 piece band with a dj was great and everyone got to hear all their favorites.

-doing the time warp with our nieces and a few of our friends, and convincing DH's 76 year old second cousin to do it with us

-the blue cake. people kept commenting that they loved the fact that we didn't have a 'normal' cake.

-Our guest table, we had our epic video playing on the table and instead of a guest book we had wish cards

-this isn't different or original, but people here ask whether they should do napkins and matches... our guests LOVED them both, and most of the women grabbed extras of both to hold on to. they were a hit, so if you want them, get them.

-the batman garter was a huge hit as well, especially since we rigged who caught it and DH loved the other batman garter later on too. he didn't realize there were two garters and was actually jealous and mopey when his best man got to keep the other one.

Re: Married Girls - Different Ideas That Were a Hit!

1) our music - very detailed oriented to our theme and our taste. We had irish music during the ceremony. We had our style of punk/pop/metal music that was low key for the ch and for our entr., bq toss, garter, cake cutting, etc we all had unique music.

2) Sign in tree - HUGE hit even though it baffled people at first but they read the sign and the dj made an announcement on what to do.

3) the details i had which seem normal on this board (menu, seating cards (matched everthing), OOT boxes, Favor boxes along with the favors) where just out of the norm for my guests who have seen those things but not as 'well' as how i did it.

I guess that is about it.
