married ladies - did you have any 'no shows' at your wedding?

Original post by Kara and Todd

Did any of you have people RSVP yes and then not show up -- or fewer showed up than responded?

Just curious how prevalent this is. I know this happened to one of my brother's, but I don't think it happened to the other...

I had 1 no show because he got the month mixed up. He thought it was June 18th instead of May 18th. I had to forgive him, he is 85 years old!

What a great post. I have been thinking about this like crazy. I have two friends and my sister-in-law who are all pregnant vowing they will make it no matter what to the wedding.
(1 Due: Aug 14th)
(1 Due: Aug 27th - My SIL)
(1 Due: Sept 9)
Wedding Day Sept 2
I know they will say yes, but when the date comes, they won't show. Do you recommend rounding down? What do you do???

Well I've never had a wedding before but my FH and I have thrown kickin' Halloween partys at halls for the past 4 years and I can tell you, If someone is having a baby upto 3 months before the event, no matter what they say, they are not coming. So round down.

We had 3 no-shows and someone who cancelled the day before. 2 of the no-show were DH's boss plus guest (the ONLY plus 1 we invited). Needless to say, I was pizzzzzed

that's so horrible anyone who does that. the no shows if I have any at my wedding will become those family members we used to have, or those friends we used to have!

unless they have good excuses! don't people understand how rude it is to make someone pay for them then not show up?

I had 3- one was our priest who has Parkinson's disease and was too tired after the ceremony to go the reception.

The others were 2 of DHs elderly relatives who were sick. Out of 137, it wasnt too bad

We had an eparty and had 10 no shows!!! 6 apologized up and down and gave us gifts. 4 didn't even bother to call. FH called them and they said, 'well, we didn't know if was a big deal.'

PS. Never got a gift from them except for when his daughters Christening came round. Then we got a invite with a check in it!!! Not even a card!

i had no show because they couldn't find the swan club....got lost

I have to admit, we got lost and couldn't find the Swan Club either when we went to look at it.

same here..we went to a family friend wedding in Swan Club and tooks us half a hour looking for it. Luckily brides grandmother was in our car...and they can't start without her.

I had only 4 people that didn't show up... All and all it wasn't so bad!
We under estimated when we put our final count in. When our BM asked us why there were more chairs than there were people coming, I told him that there was a whole family that hadn't responded, and wanted to have room if they showed.
He ended up complying and we were ok.

I love Swan Club, and my fh said the same thing bout it being to hard to find and knowing my fmaily,, they woudl've gone on home too...

We figure on people being no shows because well.. let just say we know how my family is,
(my grandmother has made it clear that she does NOT rsvp..i'd try to explain why she doesn't but i'm still trying to understand her reasoning myself)
so we underestimated big time. we guranteed 175, but we're inviting 250..

We had a lot of people due around our wedding who vowed they would try their hardest to come. Most ended up RSVPing no before the date we had to give the hall the final count (the one who was due 3 weeks before RSVPed yes and came).

I'm not a big proponent of rounding down, it makes things difficult for the BM and Maitre D on the wedding day trying to scramble around for extra seats to accomodate guests who do show up.

Sometimes things are out of our control (people get sick, etc) and I found, the people with a good reason not to make it were very apologetic and either sent their spouse without them or gave a nice gift, as if they were attending anyway. The people who really didn't have a reason either haven't apologized or given a reason yet or waited over 5 months to do so in my case.
