I think that she broke the law therefore she should go to jail. Nothing more...nothing less.

two words.. Michael Milkin.
they broke the law.. plain and simple.
others who were rich got away with it.. The Justice system isn't perfect. No argument there.
but she's going to a minimum security facility.
If it was a regular guy(gal), it'd be the pen for 10 years.. she should consider herself lucky.

Re: MARTHA SENTENCED....
I'm losing all faith in our justice system; here are the top three reasons.
1. Lizzy Grubman 2. Martha Stewart 3. That ex-model/tycoon custody battle over the twin girls.
Am I alone in this way of thinking???

I can't believe it!!!! Thats all she got. I'm of two minds here, one I think she should have gotten more time, and two I have to agree with the person who said this thing is blown way out of proportion and that if she was a man she would have gotten away with a slap on the hand.

Re: MARTHA SENTENCED....
I may be alone but I sort of feel bad for Martha - they destroyed her company and lots of people are losing their jobs - and for what?
There are a lot worse corporate criminals out there. I think they used MARTHA as an example and she was an easy target because lots of people hate powerful women.

one word - Pinnochio.
She is going to jail for lying, not insider trading.
I don't think she needs to be in a maximum security facility with murderers, etc.

and on the other side of the coin.. she shouldn't be treated anymore special just because she's Martha Stewart.
and what about Lizzie Grubman.. was she treated too harshly as well?

How many convicted liars are in prison? A maximum security prison? I really don't know - is it normal to imprison every person that lies to an investigator about an investigation? (eta - I am not talking about the ones that say 'I didn't do it' that are lying )
Lizzie Grubman is a completely different situation and I think that it's a crime that she only went to jail for 30 days.

Exactly... Grubman actually INJURED people while drunk and behind the wheel, and left the scene of the accident and she got less time than Martha is getting. Martha didn't hurt anyone she just tried to add to her empire (not that I am condoning) by doing something that has been done by others many times before with lesser punishment.

obviously.. we all lie.. it's just a human thing.
but if you do it to the Feds or under Oath.. you break the law.. and those are serious charges she was convicted of.
ok.. i was off base with the insdier trading thing... but what she did was a felony.
and maybe she doesn't belong in a prison like 'OZ'.. but it should not be sleep-away camp either. Jail should be meant to punish severly so that peope will not want to go back.
and as for men.. i think we need to differentiate.. regular Joes would be gone for a long time.. rich guys may be able to get away with it. and I'll be honest with you..
i do not buy the powerful woman argument. not for one moment. (we can agree to disagree on that one).
i see everybody as the same..
you do the crime.. you do the time.

and I will say that if Lizzie was a man (though she kinda looks one.. )
she/he would still be sitting there.
both her and Martha got off easy.

Yes, they are serious charges, but in light of other people charged & convicted of much more serious and sometimes violent crimes, this sentencing is still harsh in my opinion. Lizzie Grubman had a walk in the park compared to this instance and I think her crimes are much more serious. Both are women.
I doubt any type of prison is like a sleep away camp and being trapped in your home for months is not as easy as it seems.
ETA: And I think she has more then learned her lesson.
And seriously, I have never heard of anyone going to jail for 5 months for lying under oath. I guess it happens but I have never heard of it. I think a HUGE fine and TONS of community service would more appropriate in this situation.
And I just remembered Winona Ryder - community service for being caught red handed stealing. That's a felony, no jail time at all for that one!

granted.. but she could have gotten over a year. i'm sure there are others.. men and women included who were sentenced to the max..

Don't feel too bad for her, she has 5 months to write a best seller and will make millions off of it!
FREE MARTHA!! She may be a con but she is still my idol. I wish I could bake and decorate like her.
