Re: MARTHA SENTENCED....
wow i can't believe it. I really didn't think she'd get jail time (not that she doesn't deserve it)... just probation. Rich people almost never go to jail. the judge was a harda$$ wasn't he? I kept refreshing yahoo news to get the news on this.

Plus a $30,000 fine, that should hurt her pocketbook!

I guess I'm the only one who thinks that they blew this whole thing way out of proportion. This may be a strong statement, but I'll say it anyway: If she was a man, this never would have been this huge. But I do know what a beotch she is and I think she pissed so many people off in the span of her career that this was just the karma that was coming back to her.

$30000 for her is like a nickel to us... whoa... that judge was sure out to teach her a lesson!
and then she holds a press conference to make some remarks..
disgusting.
and some poor kids who get caught with a leaf of pot go away until they're 90.
she lied to the FEDS!
she's a reprehensible human being. JMO

Well, ok, let me put it this way. I think there are two sets of law in this country, one for the regular people and one for the rich and famous. And I think that if she were a rich and famous MAN, she would not have gone through all this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not on her side at all! I just think that the judicial system can be f-ed up in this country.

i totally agree - they were trying to make an example of her, and punish her for being a nasty person......it's just not right....

understood.. but whether you have a sunny disposition or whether you are a real %#&@.. if you lie to the Court under oath, you are guilty of crime and should be punished according to the letter of the law.
that's why the laws exist in the first place.

I'm 100% with you on this one. I'm wondering what's going to happen to Ken 'Kenny Boy' Lay of Enron fame, if anything!

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking of!
And I know how the laws SHOULD be in this country, I just have a problem with the way they are carried out. OJ Simpson, Bill Clinton, HELLO!

Martha was not convicted of criminal charges of insider trading. She was found guilty of conspiracy, making false statements and obstruction of agency proceedings which are lesser charges. The maximum prison time she could have gotten was 16 months. I feel bad for Martha 'cuz I feel that she was made out to be a public example - more so than most. I think the negative publicity has cost her dearly - more so than the sentencing - which she will be paying for for a quite a while.

I disagree. I don't think that jury wanted to convict her, but the evidence was such that they had to.
