materials: silk v. satin v. polyester

ok. i admit that sometimes i can get confused.

for example...yesterday i tried on a dress. the sales lady kept going on and on that is was high quality silk. silk, silk, silk, yadda, yadda, yadda....

anyway, as i changed out of the gown i saw the tag that read 100% POLYESTER!!! for the shell and the lining!!! so everything!!!

then i look online and its referred to as satin.

so whats up? can all 3 be related? am i missing something?

like i did feel good when she kept saying SILK...but then i felt like i was duped when i read polyester.

what gives??

silk is natural, the fibers come from a silk worm... its very heavy fabric on a lot of dress

satin is a type of weave.... it can be synthetic and made with polyester, satin is also a high gloss fabric which ends up being idea for a lot of wedding gowns

and silk satins are more expensive than polyester satins

so the 100% polyester can actually be satin?? wouldnt the tag also say satin? im confused!

no because satin isnt a fiber, its a certain kind of weave (like basket weave, rib weave etc.), many different fibers (ie sil, polyester) can be woven into fabrics using a satin weave, but satin itself is NOT a fabric

does that make sense? im better with pictures lol
