Maître d' tip
We had our final meeting with Fox hollow and they recommended we tip $4 pp... which would be about $700. I found that to be an insane amount and most of what I've seen people do is about $200-$300. And I'm pretty sure wait staff gratuity is already included in the price we are paying. I don't want to insult them but I found that's a lot. What is the best thing to do??

I picked 'another amount'I have heard anywhere between $3-$5 for a Maitre D tip.
Do what you are comfortable with and you can always add if necessary.

I'm getting married at the Fox Hollow, as well. $4/pp does seem excessive - and thats coming from someone that worked throughout undergrad and grad school doing cocktail service. We're having ~125pp and I think $350-400 for the M-D is a good amount. The wait staff and bartenders are included in the Fox Hollow price - but, we still have to take care of our bridal attendant, as well. Did they mention what was customary for her? Do we also tip the manager, as well?

You have to tip the bridal attendant and maître 'd as well. No mention of managers

Woodbury CC recommended 4-5$ pp which does seem like a lot to me but that's what we decided to give.

Re: Maître d' tip
OK - MD and bridal attendant sounds right. I hear some people feel obligated and/or pressured to tip the manager - but, since they get a handsome commission on our booking, I really don't feel thats right (unless they really go above and beyond)

I'm actually still unsure about this. Since we have the whole place to ourselves, we have 3 different Maitre D's and there is NO WAY I can afford to tip all of the $4 - I may as well have another party. I'll probably decide on around $500 or $600 for each.

Yes I have 2 bridal attendants and 2 maître-d's but my hall said anywhere from $3-5 but then the four of them split that. Which seemed a little low to me so I think I am just going to give what I feel comfortable at probably around $400.

Maître d' tip
Just so you know, the 'service fee' that's included in your price is not a tip. Your waiters, waitresses and bartenders get paid hourly and then any tips that anyone on the staff is given is all pooled and divided at the end of the party.I worked in the food service industry for 9 years. While I do think you should tip the maître d appropriately, $4 per person seems excessive (unless you're having a small wedding). Our venue included a $500 maître d tip in the contract and I think that's very fair.
