Matrix SPOILERS. DON'T READ THIS POST IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR WHAT HAPPENED

I saw it Thursday night. I have tons of questions, maybe I'm a little slow. I didn't get why it was the Oracle after the fight with Smith. Can we start with that?

I found this review online and I found it very interesting. I copied what this person wrote, so don't blame me for spelling mistakes...

Let me first say I PROMISE YOU WILL LOVE THIS TRILOGY IF U READ THIS.

I apologize if my email does not follow the rules of this forum, but I felt I could offer you a very clear explanation of the Matrix series in light of reading your reviews of the Matrix Revolutions. The bottom line is people don't understand it. So this is a crash course for anyone who wants answers. Real one's, not some fanboys idea of what it's about. Please note, SPOILERS ARE ALL THROUGH THIS REVIEW.

Here we go with the basics.

Zion is real! The Matrix is not.

The Matrix was designed to provide a mental stimulus for the human bodies connected to the machines as a source of power. This is the sixth version of the Matrix. There have been multiple versions of the Matrix because of a flaw in the program (kinda of like Windows). That flaw is giving individuals the ability to choose.

The first Matrix was designed as a perfect uptopia (see pt. I - Smith explains it to Morpheus; pt. II - The Architect explains it again) but humans did not accept it as real so they just kept waking up. It was redesigned to reflect our civilization at it's last stage before it was taken over by the machines (the year 1999).

The Architect's problem with this new design (the anomoly)of the Matrix is that it require individuals to think freely, i.e. choice. It was the Oracle that suggested he redesign the Matrix in this way. But since humans have choices, so must the programs sent to watch over them, i.e. The Agents, thus bringing us the problem that is Mr. Smith. In Reloaded, The Architect continues to speak of the anomoly he is unable to get rid of, which is why at some point, he feels the only solution is to destroy the Matrix and those who are aware of it (the people of Zion) and start from scratch again.

The Oracle says it clearly in Revolutions. Mr. Smith is the result of the anomoly trying to balance itself. Mr. Smith began to think freely (see part I where he is freaking out while interrogating Morpheous) and the result was a negative one. Realize this, he is a similar program to the One so he is far more dangerous than a normal individual who makes bad decisions. Mr. Smith's virus like behavior happened in EVERY VERSION OF THE MATRIX. The result would always lead to the same thing -- a system crash if they didn't quickly reboot the system. The same knee jerk reaction you have when you realize someone has sent you a virus.

The One program was created to solve this problem. But each version of the One ultimately failed. Neo is different, in Reloaded he choose the door that led to Trinity, not the door that RESETS the program. Note: The Architect even noticed that Neo's experience in the Matrix was different than all the rest, realizing he was the first of them to fall in love.

Onto Revolutions:

Neo's choice has changed everything. The system is still threatened by Smith's behavior, so the Oracle makes a new choice; one she has never done before because no version of the One has ever chosen the difficult path as opposed to easy one of just resetting the system. She allows herself to become merged with Smith in the HOPE that she'll be able to help Neo when the time is right.

Neo makes another unique choice. He goes to the machines and asks for PEACE as opposed to simply destroying the system by going through the opposite door as all other versions of the One did. It was a simple as that to save Zion. Machines don't need very long to process that this may be a better idea than just constantly resetting the system.

At the end, Smith says to Neo the movies tagline - 'Everything that has a beginning has an end,' as the Oracle is speaking to Neo through Smith. Neo realizes it all along, the only way to end this is to sacrifice himself. The Oracle noted that Neo and the Source (the computer mainframe, the Architect they're all one and the same so don't get confused) are connected which is why he can control machines outside the Matrix. He uses this connection to his advantage. He becomes a Mr. Smith and since all the Smith's are connected, the Source now has a lock on Smith and simply deletes him. Pretty simple huh?

For those that like to dig deeper, than note the biblical references throughout the series. Heck, the French Man (Merovigchian) is the Devil, just read the elevator button Morpheous presses when he goes to see him for the second time. The Architect represents God - i.e. the creator of the world and its destroyer whenever things don't go as he wants. He even has you to chose a select group of people to restart Zion again sort of like Noah's Ark. Neo is Jesus, the one who realizes that peace and love is the answer, not war. And the Oracle represents the Holy Spirit - the conciousness that resides in all of us. It's a deep trilogy if you PAY ATTENTION.

at the end what did you think was holding neo as he went towards the big machine. my fh thought it looked like a lotus flower and i thought it looked like a hand?

Every matrix version had a glitch, or an anomaly. Every matrix had the 'One.' They both chose the same doors through the architect's room. Neo had changed this all around. Instead of saving Zion, he chose the door to save Trinity, for love. but the glitch remained still. The door was different so maybe there was some hope.
Agent Smith was destroyed, but he came back. He was compelled to, and he wanted everything. The third movie makes it clear that he wants all worlds.
The oracle is just a program and so is the architect. Neo saw that and realized. She kept talking about choice..choice.
When Agent Smith turned the Oracle into him, he thought he was done with her. The Oracle did it willingly, sothat she will help Neo eventually with Smith.
Neo realizes that the glitch -and a very costly one- is Agent smith. He wants everything - both worlds. Neo wants peace between both machine and humans so that is why he decides to go to the machine city. What he realized is that since the oracle is a program and the machines ---created--- the program and the glitch would destroy THEM and the humans too.
When Neo battles smith, Smith says: Everything that has a beginning has an end. He immediately realized that it was the oracle. He then knew that in order to defeat smith he needed to sacrifice himself. When the battle is over, you see that the copy of agent smith has turned back to the Oracle.
Neo, sacrified himself, and the machines sort of led him in a funeral procession and the matrix system patches up after smith vs. neo fight and everything is back to normal.
there are only two questions left for this trilogy:
Why did the Oracle always help out/give advice to the people of Zion when she herself was a program made by machines? And who was she trying to help? Zion's people? People caught by the matrix? herself/programs? or the machines...

little info on the matrix for those who didn't see the animatrix:
in our world, earth, in 1999 we had the machine. the machine had artificial intelligence which soon progressed. The machines did human's work, while humans were victims of vanity. Humans did not treat machines with much respect. One B6er machine revolted and killed his master. Every Human wanted him to be destroyed as property, and not give him a fair trail. But since the humans had built machines in their likeness and intelligence, why not? Humans would not stand for it and had him exterminated and everyone of his kind. There was a strike/revolt of B6ers [or watever their modelnumber was] so humans started destroying them; police, army, regular people. Thus they created a machine grave yard.
The rest of hte machines created their refuge in the cradle of human civilization and christened it 0-1. their AI improved and advanced and created new machines. They also kept on creating products makin the human market [stock] worth drop steadily. [yea yea useless info but i remember it]
0-1 sent many embassadors but all were refused by humans. So machines started their war. One by one humans gave up their province.

A last group of leaders had decided to cover the sky with a dark gas. They thought that if they cut off the machines main energy source, the sun, the machines would die off. But they were wrong. When they went off to destroy the rest of the machines they found out they were very wrong.
The machines had studied humans and their bodies and realized they had a type of energy in them which the machines could live off of. Thus they captured the humans and tortured them for a while testing thier brains and energies. It was torture but then the machines started puttin ghtem in those red globes to store them. Theywere alive but basically unconcious. The machines created a system for them. A virtual reality. It was supposed to be a perfect utopia, the world right before the machines came. [basically us today] the creators were the architect and the oracle which were also programs. the oracle convinced the architect to let the people have the freedom of choice. But not every choice could be free. They put in programs, the Agents [such as Agent Smith himself] to control people. It seems from the Animatrix that since this a virtual reality, anything can happen. You can be really fast and break the world record. But the machines/matrix don't want that. and the agents control that. Since Morpheus, Neo and Trinity, and Agent smith weren't PART of the matrix, they were able to defeat those, like able to semi fly from building to building. The matrix isn't reality for them so it doesn't matter. For the people caught by the machines living this virtual reality, it has to seem REAL with limitations.

But not everyone was caught into those red globe things. Those who weren't were able to go do some things that were nearly impossible for everyday people. But the agents would see to that and make sure that the machines caught them and made sure that they didn't go beyond.

Many thought that this movie was to END the matrix, the system/program itself. But what would that do? how could all those people caught by the machines and survived torture ever go back to normal? But maybe that was too big of a step to take for the machines. The machines are still mad for the B6er which this whole case was started by humans. They don't realize it, [the humans] and they keep getting madder and madder at the machines.
As long as zion is left alone, there ishope for mankind to continue. Maybe the peace could go farther and longer, machines living together in peace, and no more people caught by the matrix. But that would be a fourth movie. plus, it seems a bit evident that the peace will go further than just leaving zion alone.

OK...I just came back from seeing it. I thought it was pretty cool during the war and the fight scenes BUT the ending IMO sucked. If I understood it correctly, does this mean that their will be another matrix movie coming out in the future.

I was also upset that Trinity died.

i liked this movie but not as much as the first 2.

Trinity needed to die...that was her purpose....

I don't think that the movie was left open for a 4th movie (which is possible -Keanu said on the Today show in May that he would sign if everyone else did...but Hugo said that if there was a 4th one it would just be him drinking tea for 2 hours...but that could have been to throw people off for the 3rd one)


but the real reason it was left over is b/c they are planning a super online video game...(like everquest...star wars, etc) which I imagine will center around Sati? (the next one?)



the reason for revolutions was that neo did a complete turn around than the other ones did...and it was b/c he had free choice...yes, Smith (with the Oracles eyes) could see the end of Neo, but that was b/c Neo didn't choose to die yet...and the Oracle said that we cannot see beyond the choices we haven't made....

Just got home from seeing it.

I LOVED IT.

I caught on to a lot of the Christian aspects, particularly what the 'machine face' says once Neo self destructs... he says 'It is done' which is what Jesus said before He was hung on the cross (actually, Jesus said 'It is finished', but it's the same thing).

I don't necessarily think they are setting it up (with Sati's character) for there to be a 4th installment. Sati was the 'exile'... she was a program created out of love (albeit out of another program). I think she is an example of the peace that was created, an although it does make you wonder if a future conenction will exist, I personally don't think so. It's just our minds wandering away and picking the movie apart (and hoping for a 4th because we love the series so much!).

I could go on and on.... such amazing amazing movies.

The Wachowski bros are definitely setting up...not for a 4th movie...but for their game...how many people will go out and by the game in hopes of getting answers...at $50 a pop!!! thats better than a movie AND a DVD


I think they may use Sati, since she was 'secondary' like Niobi and Ghost - who were the characters in the Enter the Matrix game...


as for sati, I am 90% sure she is next one...

in the first Matrix, Morpheus says...When the Matrix was first built, there was a man born inside who had the ability to change whatever he wanted, to remake the Matrix as he saw fit.

she is still young...and I don't think the Architect will keep his word...yes that is a human trait, however he has taken on many human traits (AI evolving)...so when she is older...she may have to battle the architect...adn since his opposite (Oracle0 is on her side...it sets up for a good battle...(ie video game)...just a theory...I may change my mind...

as for the religion aspects...there are tons of buddhism in all matrices (?) and now this one had Hinduism...


Sati is the woman in Hindu lore that jumped on her husbands funeral pyre...and I also heard that it means sun in Hindu...but I haven't seen anything on that yet (but at the end of the movie she makes the sun rise)

Just a question here because DH and I were talking about it again today... why would Sati be the next One? What's the purpose of having another One? Neo did what all of the other One's have not been able to do. He served the purpose of even creating The One. So if they are planning on doing a 4th movie or creating a video game, I don't see why Sati would need to be the one. They would have to bring Neo back. Remember we're assuming that he's dead. We really don't get confirmation.

Any thoughts?

jenn - I thought about this...and my only answer is that everything corrupts...and eventually there will be inbalance...(the Oracle's job - and as much as I love her...theres something a little sneaky about her)

also it seems like the architect is becoming more human...so that can lead to a whole other kind of corruption...

although I could be totally off...at one point I thought Persiphone was the mother btw reloaded and revs...

I finally saw this over the weekend and I loved it!!! Well maybe I should say really liked it because I think it could have been done a little better but I was happy with the overall movie.

I do not beleive Neo is dead and I was very sad that Trinity had to die but I think her purpose was to help Neo as much as she could and she accomplished that.

I thought Smith was awesome. He is really evil and stole the movie.

I kind of wished that the matrix was destroyed at the end but I guess peace leaves it open for many more movies.
