May 17, 2008 - Question of the Day

Original post by Kristina2009

1. How long after marriage do you plan to have a child (or, if you have children together already, another child)?

2. Also, how has your age influenced your decision?

Re: May 17, 2006 - Question of the Day

I think that once we are settled into a house which should be right away after the wedding, i will graduate 4 months prior to the wedding with my BSN for RN - so im sure that whatever happens whenever it happens will be great - ill be 23 and he will be 32 - FHs daughter will be turning 6 - would want them to be close and not too far apart - so i would have to say we would probably be within a year to two years having the pitter patter of little feet after the wedding. I think that his age definately is a factor in it - he doesnt want to have any children after he turns 35 - he feels that he will be too 'old' which i think is a crock.. but age definately played a part for us

As of now we are planning on waiting at least one year after the wedding. There's a lot we are going to have to get used to.

Age only comes up when my family tells me I'm going to have mentally retarded children b.c I'm getting old or I probably wont be able to have kids when I am ready to try. Apparantly 26 is old back in the mother land.

We haven't really discussed how long after getting married we were like to have children. It's when we can AFFORD to have them. I cannot consciously bring a child into this world knowing that I can't afford one.

My age is an issue because I'm 30 now. When I get married i'll be turning 31 in a month and a half. I want to have a child before I turn 35. After that benchmark, I really don't think I would like to have any because I feel like I would be too old and too tired to be chasing after a toddler.

Hey !!! I'll be 36 when I get married, probably 37 when I have the first one. Kids make you young and tired or not, you'll be running after them. My boss had two after 35 and she looks and feels great, and my SIL had my nephew at 40, same thing. It's great if you can have them early, but don't count it out if you hit the big 35!!!

I just feel exhausted now. I can't imagine how I would feel at 35 AND running after a kid. *sigh*

We would like a house or a condo first and then try for children. FH wanted to have them right away so we compromised that we would try around one year after we are married.

When I am married I will be 27.... so maybe first kid when I am 29. If I was younger, I'd probably wait 3 or more years. FH once told me he wanted a honeymoon baby but then reality sunk in... we need to find a house first.
