Maybe I am the only one who thinks this way... Maybe its cause I don't have kids yet?

Original post by june262004

So last night on the news they were talking about a bus stop in Brooklyn that had an ad for the show 'the L word' it had all the woman in the cast posing naked (but totally covered up) and people are FREAKING out and demanding it come down today! I don't see what the big deal is. Parents are saying they don't want to explain to their children what the L word means (Lesbian) I kinda think this is whats wrong with society today. This might be what makes children not like gay people!

Then they just had on the news a store that is in the same neighborhood as a middle school. The store sells lingere and whips and chains. The Lingere is in the window. People are demanding the store move. REALLY who cares. I hope these same people don't have HBO where you can here curse words and people being shot and naked girls on real sex and G sting Divas.

Im so sick of people 'freaking out' stupid crap. I still don't get the whole Janet Jackson things so what. It was 2 seconds and unless you were sitting on top of the tv or had Tivo you didnt see it (or the Internet) .

People on other country laugh at us for this reason!!!!!!!

Well, heard today that some senators are trying to pass a law that will moniter what is said on SATTELITE RADIO and Premium movie channels like HBO!!!!!!!!!!

Can you imagine what Sopranos would be like??? Apparently, there is a lot of backing in congress for this. What is this world coming too?

Oh lord . Shouldn't we be worrying more about crime and violence on the streets? It's like this:

Mom #1: 'My son was jumped today and his wallet was stolen.'

Mom #2: 'That's terrible! At least he wasn't looking at an 'L' word poster though!

That's basically how ridiculous this world is becoming.

This, once again, brought to you by the child who thought Material Girl was about Sewing.

And I'm the girl who always thought Physical was really about exercise!!! Although the 'Let's get animal' part always confused me as a little kid....

I totally see where you're coming from, but I will be honest and say I wish these things werent around. Its not that I wont talk to my son about sex etc... but its ALL around me.. EVERYWHERE.. I DO think I would be happier without whips, chains, naked posters, and bloodshed. I personally could do without it all. JMHO
P.S. I have a 3 year old but also felt that way before hand. I could just do without it all. I think this world is very evil and I would rather show all the nice things. Call me crazy LOL

I understand your point...its not that homosexuality is evil, of course not...but even when i walk through georgetown now...more and more whips and chains, naked posters...etc are lining windows and yes, sometimes its a little much! Not to mention kids asking the questions, i wonder myself what the half the stuff is, lol!

Agreed. It's just an overload of things that children don't need to be exposed to during their childhood. I don't recall knowing the whole birds and bees thing until I was around 7 or 8, let alone know about homosexuality. You can turn on the average soap opera and see more than necessary T & A in the afternoon. I don't even really see censorship on movies viewed on USA or FX anymore. I think the other night around 8:00 I was watching something on one of those channels and I heard was a string of profanity. I was like 'Whooaahh'. It reminded me of that South Park epsisode where they were going to say 'S H I T' on TV. After awhile, it became so commonplace, it was everywhere. I don't even care for the public children's programming anymore because they don't have the same focus or feel they did when we were kids. That's why I love Disney Channel for Amber. Why do kids have to be overly sensitized to every adult issue out there? Can't they just be kids?

7 1/2 years ago I went to see the Spice Girls in concert. Guilty pleasure, but I was *really* taking my boyfriend at the time because he just LOVED them. Yeah.

Anyway, so we're the two oldest people there without children (we were in our late teens). The girls have a song called 'Naked' for which they would get on stage and look like they were wearing nothing. They'd be in high backed chairs that were turned around, so all you could see were bare arms and legs. I have to say I was a little uncomfortable - did these women not know that their primary demographic was not yet in Middle School? None of the parents seemed to have a problem, and I know some overly protective parents who were there with their daughters personally. They didn't say anything to me about that.

I agree with you, Kristin, that if you don't want to explain what a Lesbian is, tell the kids that L stands for Love. That's what I thought it was before I heard anything about the show. You think a kid's gonna understand the complexities required to actually explain what lesbianism is? There are smart kids, but I don't think so.

This, once again, brought to you by the child who thought Material Girl was about Sewing.

Depending on how old you are you might not have been the oldest there because I was there also. I was a huge Spice Grils fan. I saw three concerts in a week when they were on tour.

I understand what you mean about the Naked performace. I was a little shocked as well. But they are from Britan and in the UK nakedness is very well accepted. When I went to London I saw a game show where a naked girl was dared to sit on a cake. It was on the regular channels. So I don't find it hard to believe that they would do a naked bit on stage.
