And its the governor of Alaska- Sarah Palin- she's been in office for 2 years.
Any thoughts?

This for any Obama supporters- and again-I dont like either candidate but by election day I will pick the lesser of two evils.
Obama has a lot of ideas for change 1-healthcare for all americans (cost- in the trillions) and 2- 60 million to fix the nation's roads
just wondering how you feel about paying for all of that- economists are saying it would require a hefty tax increase.
just wondering
Not if we stopped pumping so much into a war we shouldnt be fighting

How about we save ourselves a couple of billion $'s and get out of Iraq?!
And then what? leave it for our children to pick up after? ... We did that once, where we left iraq before we should have, and now we're back to pick up the pieces. Although I would love for everyone to be home, I miss my SIL and BIL greatly..
i completely agree with everything you said Mayghen!!! And yes lets pull out of Iraq and then all those troops who have died, died for nothing...for only us to go and start a war (whether right or wrong of us to do) and not finish what we went in there to do. Sometimes i feel alot of people who speak about the war and what is going on over there really have no clue. Maybe that sounds ignorant of me but I deal with it first hand (well through FH) i know what he tells me goes on over there and have heard from many of his friends...how we truly are helping areas. Or how FH had to move from one base in Iraq to the next because they handed over that base he was on to the Iraq's and how the Marines didn't think that was right because the Iraq's are not 100% ready to gain that back without our protection...and that is a lot to do with trying to pull troops out and bring more home.
Yes I want my FH home as do so many other wives/fiances/girlfriends/husbands/boyfriends/mothers/dad and siblings but he is over there protecting our country and I am proud of him for what he does. And I think we should stay there and finish what we went to do!!!

I'm crashing! had to post though. Muliigan you are so right and I agree with you on everything except the part where you say it won't effect you cause it will. Any household combined income (this means your future husband and you) making 100,000 and up will be effected. Obama said anyone making over 100,000 a year is rich!! are you kidding me?! Not in NY your not. Obama and his wife make well over 1 million a year. It's hard to believe he understandsthe struggle of everyday people.
its def frustrating. Because if you go to, for example, Ohio and make 100k a year, you can have a nice home and support 2-4 kids. Here, you can support two people, live in a tiny home, and have to watch every penny making that sort of money!

as much as I want the war to be over- I also wouldnt feel safe just pulling out- because that could show a sign of weakness and make our country more vulnerable. It would be nice to work towards bringing them home, but they really need to have things organized and solidified before just taking them out- or else it was just pointless!

I just wanted to take a moment and say if you feel SO passionate about your candidate, that is great. Please try to convince everyone around you to follow your lead. You should WANT everyone to see YOUR side and vote for what YOU feel is best for our country.
That is done through RESPECT and INFORMATION. Not sarcasm, being condescending or mocking.
Just a general thought after reading LIW and LIF threads today. I am very open minded and I would LOVE to be swayed. I would LOVE to feel 100% confident in a single candidate so in addition to all my own personal research, I love reading the opinions of others when they are well written and constructive.

exactly!!! i agree. I would love to have them home. I don't know whether or not I agree that this war was started for nothing, and i know some people would disagree with me...but that is what is great- everyone has different opinions. But honestly from speaking to Fh especially in the last couple days--they are not 100% ready to pull out. And actually we do have less troops going over there. Look at the army--they have 12-15 month deployments just because they don't want to have as many people over there in iraq--it is very sad for their families but it is the way it goes. And even FH said that with them giving back that land they Marines were occupying is because they are lessen troops over there and dont need them in certain areas...but alot of the troops dont agree because they see what is going on over there!!!
um...ok i might get flagged for this but it is seriously just my curiousity i am not trying to be mean---but those of you who want the war to be over is it just because you dont want our men and women dying over there or because you dont want the war going on over there anymore (which many think was over oil) and because of our money going towards the military being over there??!!!

Wow 100K if you make that even in NY your still rich in my book (no offense girls)!!! But seriously i think if you make 100k and have no kids you should be taxed a high percentage then someone making 25k with four kids. Is it punishment for doing well - maybe - but you can afford to feed/house yourself easily with 100k whereas the mom of four kids making 25k a year can not. That is what makes this country great - you can be rich and chip in a bit more and you should be lower middle class and get a bit more support to perhaps make yourself better.
Obama did a great thing with his speech last night - take personal responsibility BUT let the government put in the tools to help you at least.

hmm I'm not sure I want to hear peoples opinions on this ... because if someone were to say that our military shouldnt be recieving that money, I may blow hahh ... I just had to get off LIF because someone said that our economy will get better if we pull out because then that money can go to fixing our economy ... I find it so insulting that some people don't respect, and understand what our military does everyday, and they don't get paid enough for what they do!

OMG they don't get paid enough for what they do you are RIGHT!! It's funny you see so many people complain about the economy and how pulling troops out of Iraq will allow more money to go towards the economy. Well I always think Pro Football players, basketball players, actors etc are getting such great pay millions of $$ because of US...we support them and allow them to get that money but many people dont say anything but then people who are supporting our COUNTRY and risking their lives everyday and get crap pay for doing so....get comments like oh pull us out so that money could be used towards our economy...just doesnt make sense in my books!!!

I am trying to do some research on both candidates as I am still undecided. Right now I am readong about Obama. There are many things he has going for him that I agree with, but one thing that really has me mad is that he voted against banning partial birth abortion. I guess I am pro choice as long as it is done early in the pregnancy and it is for the right reasons- aka mothers or baby health would be at risk or something like that. But I went and read what exactly partial birth abortion is and to me that is murder. So now Im very turned off that.
I havn't gotten to McCain yet though so I am sure there will be ideas of his that I wont be happy with either.

I want to be clear that I utterly respect our miltary, that I want each and every soldier home safe and that I do not want to see military budgets cut at the expense of our soldiers in Iraq.
We can all agree to disagree on the war, but I think the Iraq War was/is a catasprophe. What purpose has it served besides putting our brave soldiers at risk ? We have no national interest in being in Iraq. News flash-there were no terrorists in Iraq. They came from Saudi Arabia (our 'best' buddies), Pakistan and Egypt. The Taliban in Afghanistan was providing al Quada safe refuge, not Iraq. Iraq was a distraction, plain and simple. Are there terrorists there now? Yup, we created a nice power vacuum for them to fill when we took out Sadam Hussein. Was Sadam Hussein a nice guy? Nope, but that was not our problem, that was the Iraqi people's problem.
Yes, the argument could be made that we broke it, now we have to fix it but my impression is that the Iraqi's don't want us fixing it, they want us out. Why continue to risk American lives in Iraq?!
This was a false war and we were duped....how are we going to deal with it?!
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you who have friends and relatives serving in Iraq. I wish them a safe return soon!

I agree! Both options scare me. I don't think either of them make a good P. Candidate..... frankly, I don't think any of the 2008 parties running or looking to run were all that impressive this election.
We shall see what happens... I think this election will be about face and personally it upsets me... I may be way conservative but there's just certain people that don't make good country leaders... I guess it's a matter of picking the less of 2 evils...if I decide to vote... it's NOT for Ob. that's pretty much all I know right now.
Either way this election is history in the making.

Besides, if you dont vote, you dont get to complain

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!!! They are much appreciated. And I agree we can all agree to disagree.
but to state my opinion-yes maybe the war was started and shouldn't have been...I don't know what I feel about that. But I do know that it has NOT been a total catastrophe!! I mean the media and the news shows what they want to show. And they don't show much of how we started schools in Iraq for those children to go safetly to school and get a better education, they dont show that we are helping the men and women that need our help over there and that we are rebuilding towns and cities. And that yes some people in Iraq want us out but some don't. And we are turning over their land back to them in some places. But believe me we are NOT getting out of there any time soon. There is actually going to be a permanent duty station in Iraq...which means people can get stationed there not just deploy there! So we aren't leaving yet not even with Obama in office.
And yes the war is risking our men and womens lives everyday but that is the meaning of war, they do risk their lives during war...no matter what war. And our men and women were voluntarily joining the military knowing that in their contracts it said they were going to be deployed!! And this is the point of the military to provide national secuirty and they are doing so...our troops are doing their job, they knew what they were getting into when they joined. And I tell that to my FH all the time!!! Because it is true...And we are all thankful (well at least I hope we all are) for those men and women that joined and risk their lives!!!!

Ok I will be the first to admit that I do not educate myself enough on this to make comments BUT I can say it was nice to listen to a speach(es) by people who are well spoken, articulate and can pronounce BIG words!
Even small words. NUCLEAR is not a big word...yet if I hear him say nucular one more time I will scream. ahhh, GWB...he's special alright.
I agree!!!!!!!
I'll give him one thing: he's been great comic relief. Those iO ads with Frank Caliendo are friggin hilarious. So thank you, Mr. President, for that.
I concur! I will truly miss him for that reason alone, I watch his speeches purely for humor

Re: McCain chose his VP
I think this information sheds more light on partial birth abortions though...at first glance, it sounds barbaric...but i'm sure there are some instances where it is actually necessary to save the woman's life....and it seems they are only performed when the mother is at risk of dying:
'Partial birth abortion' is actually a constructed term which usually refers to a Dilation and Extraction (D&X) procedure.
In a D&X, a Woman within her second trimester is induced and dilated. Clamps are introduced to pull the fetal body feet first into the birth canal. Another instrument is introduced to puncture a hole in the fetal cranial cavity and a suction hose is then inserted to remove any fluid and tissue. Without this step, the fetal head is often too large to be safely delivered through the cervix. After the head is small enough to fit through the cervix, the entire body is delivered.
Yes, this sounds horrible. BUT, what everyone needs to understand is that this procedure WAS only used in a few specific instances. Most often in cases of severe hydroencephaly. With this condition, the fetal cranial cavity fills with fluid and swells to three to four times its usual size. Usually, there is little to no gray matter development which means the fetus never develops a brain. With the head so large, it cannot safely be delivered through the cervix without harming the Woman or putting her life in jeopardy.
This procedure was only used in cases where there was no chance of a healthy fetus being born. These were tragic cases where the Women wanted to have a child and something went very wrong. Also, because testing is typically only reliable when the pregnancy has progressed to a later stage, there was no way for the Woman to know of the deformity before the second or third trimester.
This procedure, while not pretty, was needed in many rare cases to preserve the health of the Woman.
But, since it became politicized and politicians don't want to hear the truth from actual doctors, Women with doomed pregnancies now have to rely on riskier procedures which put their health and life in jeopardy.

Re: McCain chose his VP
i would just be nervous that it would be taken to far with saying partial birth abortions are ok...and not just for serious medical health issues related to the mother.
but there is a form you have to sign when you enter the hospital about giving birth (correct me if i am wrong) that if the mothers life is endangered she can sign the form saying she wants her life to be saved if her child is most likely not going to survive or something to that effect, or if she doens't want that to be the case. I am not 100% sure the exact issue... but i believe if the mothers life is in danger then yes do what you can to save the mother.
but hydrocephaly is water in the brain....and many babies can be born like that and have a shunt put in to help drain the water into the stomach where it can be properly digested. So I am not sure about this case you were referring to Gina? Was that an actual case? Just curious...because I would hope not all mothers would decide to terminate their child because it had this condition it is treatable... i mean with alot of medical issues but it can be helped!!

personally your body your choice unless the baby can survive outside of the womb on its own. I think people put their morals on this issue to much, personally I never would of aborted a child unless i was raped or 12 but i feel you have the right to make that choice and it is not the government's job to tell me or any woman otherwise.
