For all you Mcdonalds eaters, I heard on the radio this morning that Mcdonalds will be trying to phase out there Super Sized meals so they can serve a healthier meal to their customers.
I dont think that not having supersized meals is going to make all their fried foods healthier.
I think this is a stupid thing to do....even though I eat Mcdonalds maybe once a year.

There are 100's of things we can buy that are not good for us but it's up to the consumer to make those choices.
i agree, but i guess my point is some consumers need a little help making those decisions and if eliminating super-size helps, then why not? not everybody is as smart and has as much willpower about food as some of you girls on here purport to have.

Re: Mcdonalds
As a McDonalds hater, I'm glad to see how desperate they seem in their latest strategies. They're really trying too hard to make an impression on customers. And it's not working, because, as most of the folks here have pointed out, they seem to have lost sight of their target market. After all, most people think of McDonalds as an indulgence! Might as well cater to that indulgence factor and celebrate the supersized Big Mac meal in all its greasy glory!
I wonder if 'Fast Food Nation' had a significant impact on McDonalds' popularity...

Re: Mcdonalds
I love McDonalds...but I haven't eaten there in 6+ months. I think eliminating the super size is a good idea. I do agree that it's not going to prevent anyone from getting fat or suddenly make McD's a healthy place to eat, but people don't need to eat that much! Portion control is not a bad thing, its very much needed in this country. I don't really eat healthy, but I do eat small portions and it's kept me thin. (good thing too because I hate vegetables! )

By this statement, cigarettes should not be sold either.
I don't claim to have will power and I don't think this will stop people from over eating.

Mcdonald's is alright i do not eat it that much anymore. After i had worked there. My brother's friend can eat a supersized meal all by himself.

Re: Mcdonalds
well i fully support dismantling the entire tobacco industry. i'd be so happy if smoking were completely illegal and if cigarettes were no longer made, but that's just me
but the difference here is mcdonald's is still around and you can still eat it, but maybe you'll eat less if super-size is not available.

Re: Mcdonalds
Ok, what if someone decided that Krispy Kremes are not good for you and the head honchos there said we are not going to have boxes of a dozen donuts readily available to our customers.
What do you think would happen?
Customers would then ask the salespeople at KK to box the dozen donuts for them.
Who's to say that the donuts will be shared? The consumer could be planning to have the morning noon and night for a weekend. It's still their choice.
(btw, I am just playing devil's advocate. I dont really care what McD's does )

Re: Mcdonalds
i understand what you're saying, but if some people decide 'ok, there's no super-size so i'll just eat the large meal' and thereby eat several hundred calories less then what's so bad about that? obviously people can buy two meals or add an extra fries or something so it may not matter, but some people won't and will just adjust to the large. i just don't see why people think it's stupid to eliminate super-size? i think super-size itself is stupid. it's disgusting, no one needs that much food in one sitting. i guess that's my point. super-size was completely unneccessary when introduced so why is it so stupid of mcd's to get rid of it?

Re: Mcdonalds
What's not to understand about needing 700 french fries and 60oz of soda at one meal??
(just kidding there)
I was surprised a few years ago when they made the super size bigger. I can't even hold the cup in one hand

Re: Mcdonalds
I am a vegetarian and have been for 15yrs. so McD's and I don't have a strong bond. I do believe that many Americans will continue to overeat. I have reached the point of exhaustion when it comes to people not taking responsibility for their actions. I just quit smoking. Is it the tabacoo industries fault that I smoked? No!! I knew that it was addicitive and horrible for me but , I chose to do it anyway. I know that if everyday I eat a bigmac and fries that I am not only going to gain weight but also clog my artiries. People just need to think about what they are doing to THEMSELVES and quit trying to pass the buck.

AMEN!!! I completely agree! If you eat Super Size meals all the time and become overweight, it's not McDonald's fault, it's your OWN fault.
Seems like so many people these days just want to point their fingers and blame everyone and everything else if they are overweight, sick, unhappy or otherwise dissatisfied with their lives.
Here's a clue... take some responsibility for yourself!!
It really irritates me...
i agree 100% - why do i need McDonald's to stop serving the super-sized meals??? shouldn't i as an adult know that that much fast food CAN NOT be good for me??????

I agree. There are 3 options at McDs medium, large and supersize. I order the Kids club meal with the small fries and drink. When I REALLY want to indulge, I'll get the supersize and pay the $1 extra for triple the food.
At the movie theater it's 25 cents to upgrade to a large popcorn...but I still stick with the medium.
I just think that it shouldn't be the fast food industry's job to play the parent to adults that should be responsible enough to control their own eating habits. Personally, I like that at most places you get huge portions for less money...not McDs, but places like Subway because I can wrap it up and eat the other half as another meal. I think it's ridiculous to say that you can't stop yourself from eating 'just because it's there'

Re: Mcdonalds
They have supersized meal to compete in a very difficult market- Fast Food. People very often go where they can get the most for their money, hence the supersized meal was born.
It is NOT my place to tell another adult what size portion to eat or order. It is up to each person to make that decision for themselves. We rarely eat fast food, but there is no doubt that MCD's has the best fries in the World. But I am not a supersizer since I don't like all the greasy food. I stick with the regular sizes. To me, that is like saying that fancy upscale resturants have to serve certain portions too. Go where you like and order what you want is my motto.
And Susan- I bring my own soda and stuff to the movies. I am NOT paying $3.50 for a soda that costs me .50 cents. Scott gets popcorn sometimes and he never gets the tube size. Who can eat all of that anyway?
