For all you Mcdonalds eaters, I heard on the radio this morning that Mcdonalds will be trying to phase out there Super Sized meals so they can serve a healthier meal to their customers.
I dont think that not having supersized meals is going to make all their fried foods healthier.
I think this is a stupid thing to do....even though I eat Mcdonalds maybe once a year.

Good I always thought it was bad. When I first came to America I was dumbfounded by those supersized meals................just insane. That is enough food for 3 people.

I think its dumb, McDonalds is fattening and thats that. Talk about conforming.
Personally people should be responsible for their actions
I think the whole thing is BS

I think they are grasping for straws at this point. Remember when Kentucky Fried Chicken became KFC? The last I checked, they serve the same food they always did.

I though they said KFC didn't serve real chicken so they changed the name or something like that??

I forget what the real reason was, but from what I remember, they changed their name during a time when there was a backlash against fried foods.

Re: Mcdonalds
I believe this is a great idea. Obesity is out of control. When people only have to pay pennies to get twice the amount of fries and soda, they go for it and end up eating much more than is necessary. However, if people have to pay double the price of the meal, they will not eat as much.
It's all about the Benjamins, Ladies. Well, we are talking McDonalds here, so I guess it is all about the Washingtons.

I think it's great. There is NO reason for a human being to consume that much junk food unless you havent eaten in 3 days!

Re: Mcdonalds
That's the dumbest idea I ever heard. I imagine when one walks into McDonalds, they don't PLAN to eat healthy...that's why it's one of those places that you AVOID when you're on a diet! I could easily eat a supersized meal, but I don't. It's gluttony, IMO. And if someone lacks so much self discipline and self control that they're going to overindulge simply because it's only 49 cents more then it's their fault that they're fat, and it's not McDonald's to blame. Why should it be up to them to control how much we eat? We're all adults, it's up to us to be responsible for ourselves. Fast food is fast food. When I want a salad, I'll stay home and make one...but when I'm in the mood to be bad, I'm all over tha Big Mac and chocolate shake. I could care less if McDs has a healthy menu. That's never what I'll go there for.

Re: Mcdonalds
I think its a great attempt at re-marketing and re-positioning their product line.
If you've noticed they have also rolled out several healthier alternatives like special salads, this is another way to get in tune with America's health kick and to capture the female market better.

Re: Mcdonalds
I guess this goes hand in hand with the people complaining that the straws at McD's are too big and makes you drink more soda
Susan, I agree with you. I would never think 'hmmm, I want something light & healthy' and then pull into a McDonald's.
Super sizing is an option, they don't force it on you. Although they don't have small fries or soda's anymore either - they are called medium. Then it goes to child size.

Re: Mcdonalds
i think it's a good idea. portion control is what is really the problem and why people are so fat. if one company stops selling the enormous portions then perhaps others will too and it will be easier for those that lack self-control and only have themselves to blame for being fat (whatever) to eat less and maybe lose some weight.
i'd also like to ask if you would all think it's ridiculous if say subway decided to discontinue their foot-long subs? a foot-long sandwich is just as ridiculous an amount of food for one meal as a super-sized value meal. but is it different b/c the subs are 'healthier' e.g. less fat? i don't think so but that's just me.

I would think it's ridiculous if subway decided to stop selling their foot long subs. Although they would probably make more money since some people would then buy TWO 6 inch subs.
There are 100's of things we can buy that are not good for us but it's up to the consumer to make those choices.

Re: Mcdonalds
What do you think about all the fast food places starting low carb menus now too?
It was always low carb, as long as you didnt eat the bread or the fries....

Re: Mcdonalds
Since I am a vegetarian and my DH and friends are meat eaters, I like that they have alternatives, although all of the salads come with chicken, I ahve to get the side salad instead, but I get thte yougart parfait instead of fries,a nd get cheeseburgers with no meat.

Re: Mcdonalds
But think of it from a marketing perspective...their sales are down so the company is trying new things ie: rolling out new products like special salads, veggie burgers, yogurts, and now removing their offering of supersize because supersize is synonomous with gluttony and that is what they are trying to get away from right now I imagine.
From a health standpoint - I agree that this country has a huge problem with portion control. If a customer at Mcdee's really wants more food, he can order 2 big macs.
Of course MCdonalds is not healthy and we all go there when we have the urge to eat fattening greasy foods...and that is exactly why they are taking steps to get healthier and reposition themselves in the fast food market because they have so much competition.
