Medically Uneccessary C-sections

For anyone interested this is the feature on today's home page at www.parentsplace.com/

There are some good articles of what we can do to avoid c-sections (when medically uneccessary).

Re: Medically Uneccessary C-sections

EEEK!! My biggest fear...a C. DH and I have been watching all of the baby shows and I can't even stand to look when they do a C. My sister had 3 and her recovery was always so painful.

I'll have to read that article. Thanks for passing it on!

How are you feeling, BTW!?

Re: Medically Uneccessary C-sections

You do not have to 'just have a C-section' because your labor is taking a while. Ask Claud2001. She held out and was able to have a ******l birth. Of course if the baby is in distress that is different.

Re: Medically Uneccessary C-sections

I had a c/s and everyone is right... the recovery HURTS. I am however going to have another when I have baby #2. My doc said there is a 30% chance of my uterus ruptering from the contrax. I guess having major surgery is less risky according to him. Who knows.

Anyway fear of the pain of having another c/s (and getting fat, peeing all the time, not being able to drink Starbucks Carmel Machiatto's, or have a bottle of wine when I want) is making me nervous about having another baby... FH and I decided on our honeymoon we are going to try again. May 2004 here we come!

c sections...

kp...from wha I have been told c sections ARE major surgery- they are going through LAYERS of you and then stitch each labor up. dont think it is NoT MAJOR SURGERY.

Ive asked my dr/midwife group about their particular % . They really dont believe in inducing ( im 13 days late), but will doit if the baby is in danger, they believe in having mom walk the floor, use the birthing ball, massage, warm bath, etc to help work your way thru labor pains...instead of automatically pushing an epi....
etc...so we are very happy with their answers...

Re: c sections...

phyl, i'm sorry you're STILL waiting for something to happen...hopefully the baby will arrive soon.

And, I'm pretty sure that KP is well aware a C-section in major surgery...she's already had one, and she's planning another one, if she conceives again. I think you just misinterpreted her post above. She was being sarcastic about her doctor.

Re: Medically Uneccessary C-sections

Yes I was being sarcastic. I know a c-section is major surgery, first hand. I agree if there was a way for me not to have had the 1st c-section I wouldn't have but my baby was in trouble. My doc does feel that the risks are lower in having a repeat c-section than having VBAC.

Re: Medically Uneccessary C-sections

My doc said there was a higher chance of uterun rupture with a VBAC (30%). That worries me. Surgery worries me too but if that happens Im gonna be cut open too (hopefully both turn out positive ). I figure I already have that scar. I dont want my entire body all messed up. I dont think I could deal with stitches 'down there', I still can't touch the one on my stomach! JMO

Re: Medically Uneccessary C-sections

I know that there are many articles on VBAC out on the web. I think ivillage has an entire message board about that subject.
