Meeting New Neighbors
When you move into a new house do you go introduce yourselves to the new neighbors or do you wait for them to come to you?

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
I don't think it matters. I'd probably just go introduce myself instead of waiting...

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
I waited for them to come by. I'm very shy. Fortunately, I have some great neighbors. Three of them chipped in and got us a wedding gift and the other neighbor brought over cookies. The first time we met them was when they brought over the gifts.

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
I'd give it a few days because since it's fall and still relatively nice out, you may see them outside, raking leaves or whatnot. If not, hurry over and introduce yourselves! When do you move in?

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
Our neighbors saw us as we were moving in and introduced themselves. And the other day we got new neighbors across the street, so we went over to welcome them to the neighborhood when we saw them putting new locks on their doors.

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
They all came to us when we were painting and cleaning. It was really nice. One couple even gave us a card and candy.
We met everyone else when we had a block party. That was fun!

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
Both of our next door neighbors came by and introduced themselves..one with candy too.The younger couple across the street we met by sending over a bottle of wine when they had their kid (2 months after we moved in). Then we sent xmas cards to each other and then recently we just went out to dinner with them.
Have not met too many other as of yet and we have been there over two years. We have a lot of families on our block so its kind of hard when you don't have kids.

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
OMG! We've been in the apartment for 2 months, and i don't even know th4e NAMES of the people on the 2nd floor! I've seen the guy starting at us through his wondow when we pull up and go in the house, but they've never come down to introduce, and we don't feel like btoehring them. I thought they were moving out, so I didn't go introduce myself in the veyr beginning, but I figured they'd want to introduce themselves first...PLus, they really SHOULD be nice to us. We can turn off thier heat and electriccause we're on the absement..LOLLast night FH saw the people who are moving in (nov 1) on the first floor, he saw them throwugh the window (they were arrnaigng furniture) so he rang the bell and introduced him. He said they were very very nice! it's a sing;e mom and her daughter. I'm going to give her candy! and Fh told her to defintiely trick or treat to us because we have SO much candy it's ridiculous

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
We met some couples while moving in, and the other neighbors we just waited until we just happened to run into them. Only one person came to our door, and that was an old lady who told us we better continue planting flowers like the people did before us! And she said the guy who lived there before us helped her around her place all the time, fixing stuff, etc...I was like ohhh I think they moved close by if you want to give him a call!

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
Yeah, I always thought the people who ahve been there should go welcome the new people. NO ONE has come at all. That may be because we're young, or never home, or living in the basement, who knows...or they could just all be snobs! But I think generally they come to you, unless I guess if you see them out somewhere, you should say hi and introduce. hopefully whenw e buy a house we'll have a better experience. it's important to ahve a good relationship with your neighbors!

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
I think when people see you moving in they get curious and pop by. At first, every neighbor sent their kids over to check us out!!! It was cute - they made us a card and would introduce themselves 'HI I'm bobby I live in the blue house. My dad is a plumber!' 'Hi I'm Jane I live over there, my dad does tile!'I actually had a neighbor come by this weekend to say hi!! I've lived there since May! and over the summer I would come home from work and someone would leave me garden veggies - I still don't know who that was!
It's great!

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
I'm so bad at that. I know 3 people in my entire building & I've been there 4 years. My parntssaid, they knocekd ont eh nextdoor neighbors's door befor etheyeven bought the house!
I'd probably wait untill I saw them in the driveway or something, but I'm just bad like that.
It might be bettter for you to go to them, because they may not want to bother you since you are just moving in.

Re: Meeting New Neighbors
We didn't go knocking on any doors.. just uncomfortable for us.We did meet some of our neighbors when they were outside and we both said Hi and chatted for a bit. We haven't met everyone around us yet. My husband met more than I did, since he is the one working outside
