Meeting with bakery tomorrow-- What do I need to know?

Hi everyone,

We're meeting with the bakery tomorrow (our cake is part of the RH package). Is there anything I need to know or questions we should ask? We're thinking of cannoli filling- has anyone had that? Will it be okay being unrefrigerated most of the day?

Just be sure that you get all your instructions in writing and a firm price. They can add on so many costs to a basic cake before you know it!

Cannoli filling will be fine.. your cake isn't out until the reception starts so it's in the refrigerator up until that point.. I have a small cake decorating business that I do as a side job.. I would just make sure that you get everything in writing about what you want.. If you have pictures to bring with you of cakes you like, that always helps the baker to get an idea of what you like.

I'm getting married the same weekend as you, should I be doing this too? I have no idea when I'm supposed to decide about the cake. Mine is part of my RH package, but I don't know what is standard and what would be an upgrade.

I don't know that you necessarily need to do it this early, you might want to call yout bakery and see what they recommend. Luckily, we have lots crossed off our to-do list and are looking to tackle a few more things!

Go with an open mind but an idea of what you want. Our bakery had an ipad with images that we looked through. I did not want to pick a scroll from the internet if they never did it before. They had plenty to choose from and we picked our favorite.
For a flavor, you can usually pick a different one for each tier. I was going to pick canoli but went with something special for our wedding. I felt as we have canoli for holiday's and birthdays that it was nice to pick something else for a change.
Also, bring a coffee or water, taking tasting get you thirsty.

Thanks everyone! We went to Black Forest Bakery yesterday and they were great! We only knew that we wanted a square cake with cannoli filling-- she was able to steer us the rest of the way. Our cake was part of the RH package and she told us exactly what was included and what would be extra. We added on a few upgrade options, but not much, since basically everything we wanted was already included.
