MEl Gibson 'the Passion'

MEl Gibson 'the Passion'

I am in favor of people seeing the movie but if it is as gorry as people say I think I would be uncomfortable. I am not big on seeing blood and all that in movies anyway, it has nothing to do with THIS movie. I don't think I can hack the imagery.

Do You think that poor woman had a heart attack because of the movie or was it just a coincidence?

I think she absolutely had a heart attack because of what she saw. As someone said believers will have a hard time not feeling empathy towards Christ their savior who is supposed to symbolize their highest of faith.. watching him be tortured beyond recongition is a hard thing to do. Believers connect so much to the character because they believe they know him ... So it's like watching your closest relative die with the added pressure of this being your savior. So yeah.. it's too much for some.

While she was seeing the movie.

Across the country, the film's only casualty was a woman in Wichita, Kan., who suffered a fatal heart attack while watching Christ being crucified in the movie. 'It really underscores for us the absolute necessity of finding a way to continue dialoguing with each other,' said Rabbi Charles Klein of Merrick, L.I. 'We look at two hours of film and see two very different things.' Daily News

Someone had a heart attack during the movie. I believe it was during the scene where Jesus is nailed to the cross. I can honestly say that I think it was a coincidence. She was a young woman (in her 50's) with NO prior medical history of heart disease. I personally cannot imagine that a movie can cause this tragedy. I think it was a freaky coincidence. I feel bad that this happened and my heart goes out to her family.

Geez, the films 'only' casualty...they make it sound like they are pleasantly surprised that more people were not collapsing in the aisles.

A friend saw it yesterday. She said it was very intense. She doesnt think I should see it, I have always been oversensitive. I was sobbing through most of Schindlers List. I am not good w. very heartwrenching or brutally violent movies.

The part they showed on news that the woman had a heart attack during did look very gory and creepy.

There is a lot of media buzzing around this movie. I'm expecting there to be high numbers for it after the weekend, no matter how many people are protesting it.

ME TOO!!!!!!!!! I cannot watch that movie by myself, no imagery and I still bawl like a baby. I went to the Holocaust Museum in DC and I was a wreck, you would swear I was there. That is why I can't see this move, I don't need blood and gore to get the magnitude of an event.

I am a member of another message board, and I wanted to post what someone wrote about the movie. This man is a Pastor... here's what he said. I really need to prepare myself for seeing it....

I am currently in shock.

Just saw 'The Passion of the Christ' with about 40 other Pastors.

Not only could I not sit still during the whole movie, I was sobbing throughout the last 3/4 of it. I was so fidgety because of what He went through.

I've only been to two movies in my life where the whole audience stayed through all the credits, this movie and Braveheart.

However, this time, during the credits, all you could hear were muffled sobs.

Do not take anyone younger than high school to see this movie. Not only will you come away with irreplaceable images in your mind, but you will be nauseous beyond measure.

It is a small price to pay.

I went to my car, shaking like a leaf, wondering if it was even safe to drive home. I waited for awhile.

I got in my car and broke into uncontrollable sobbing which I have not done since my dad died.

Through the entire movie, you feel the guilt of everyone involved, from the Pharisees and other religious leaders, the governor, King Herod, all the Jews, Peter, Judas all the Romans. But, at the end, you feel exonerated.

Warning to all non-believers on this board: Don't be surprised if most/all of the Christians on this board and elsewhere are more than sensitive than usual when it comes to jabs at Christ or Christianity.

My thoughts are disjointed because I am still reeling from the experience.

I can totally see this happening. As X said for people who are truly devout Christians I am sure the reaction will be overwhelming. My DH wants to see this in the movies but I have already told him I will wait for video because I know that I will be crying.

This is the absolute best thing that can and will come from this film, whether you like the film or not.

I saw this movie last night and let me tell you, there wasn't a dry eye in the room. And the ones who didnt cry at all the whole time, were the ones sobbing at the end of the movie. It was heart wrenching to see what he really went through...the brutality, the pain, the torture. The one thing I regret was not bringing any tissues with me because I was sobbing so much...I was in shock and there are no words to describe it. If anyone decides to see this movie, be prepared! Prepared to cry, prepared to see alot of blood shed. To all the Christian believers out there, please go see this movie because you will finally see the truth, but I don't recommend going a second time to see it. It's just too overwhelming. In Loving Memory...

a woman had a heart attack and died when I went to see Lord of the Rings - fellowship of the ring...

it wasn't during a battle or anything...it was actually when Gandalf and Frodo were talking in the Mines of Moria...

so I'm not sure

Re: MEl Gibson 'the Passion'

A bunch of my friends went to see this movie. They're all really devout people (some Catholics, some Methodists, some Lutherans) who had a group in college they called 'The Thumpers' (as in Bible Thumpers... pretty cute, right?) Anyway, they unanimously hated the film. They thought it sucked all of the joy out of faith and felt that it wasn't a fitting tribute to God's love. I haven't seen it, and I don't plan to do so, but I thought that ALL of these people hating it so much was interesting.

One of these friends forwarded me a few intriguing interviews with Mel Gibson about his particular slant on religion. These interviews are definitely not flattering (one of them is REALLY disturbing) and I don't want to 'stir the pot' here, so if you want to see them, FM me and I'll send them to you later today.

We saw it last night and I don't even know what to say. We were sooo quiet after we left and we were emotionally drained. We both cried through the whole movie.

Wow, I wanted to go see to yesterday, but the 3 theatres near me were sold out!

Maybe I will not go, I get sad easily

I am torn, b/c I still think it is important to see something that has such an impact.
