and choked

Who cares?

I'd rather make it to the big game and lose than be in last place any day.

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

cool and you are representing which team?

don424 Posted:

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

i look at it differently -- i'd rather die quietly than have a nationwide audience see it -- it makes it worse

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

How pessimistic!!!

I'd rather have the opportunity to perform in front of a National Audience than never make it. Someone's gotta lose the game, right? BOTH teams can't win! Sometimes it'll be us, other times it'll be them.

That's like saying, 'I'd rather get bad reviews in community theater than be nominated for an Oscar and not win.'
don424 Posted:

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

exactly!!

it's better not to be nominated
PrincessRose Posted:

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

I'm not even going to bother responding to that.

I hope the Mets win - it might improve your outlook on life!

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

i have a great outlook on life

and besides, an oscar nomination is far different than a baseball game

you still get honors for being nominated, but no one remembers second place in sports

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

Yes they do.

Olympic Silver Medalists are still honored by their countries.

Hell, the Jamaican Bobsled Team had a MOVIE made about them!

And EVERYONE remembers who lost the World Series in '86, right?

I know I do!

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

new yorkers remember who lost in 86

ask a fan of the milwaukee brewers

ok, let me qualify

in PROFESSIONAL sports (i.e. not olympics), no one remembers second

and even in the olympics, silver and bronzed are honored but easily forgotten

Rachel, I'm with you. I think any baseball player would chose making it to the WS and losing over being at home and playing golf in October.

DH got us tickets to one of the subway series games and I am so excited. I get to go see the Yanks beat up on the O's twice this week and then I get to see them beat up on the Mets at Shea It doesn't get much better than that!

And this is my new favorite thing to say - the RedSux!!!!!!!

Don't call me a New Yorker. I'm not a New Yorker. I may live here at the moment, but I am a Connecticut Yankee, thank-you-very-much.

Now, I just spoke to some Sport Fanatic Friends of mine about our conversation, and got some very interesting results.

My friend Ed, who is a producer at WFAN and a pessimist who hates everyone (LOL), would rather lose in the World Series than die quietly. He feels that he would rather have the extra thrills in October than nothing to look forward to. He is a Mets Fan.

My friend Joe, who co-hosts a sports talk show out here on the Island, would rather die quietly. Less Heartache that way. He says 'You're done in July and can move on to the next Sporting event.' He is a Yankee Fan, but he is also a fan of the Giants, the Knicks, and Notre Dame.

Apparently Joe enjoyed the 80s.

Co-worker Rob, who is also a producer for various televised sporting events, agrees with Ed and would rather lose in the World Series. He too is a Mets fan.

Just thought this was interesting.

Can you Yankee fans explain to me why you go to a Subway Series game at Shea Stadium? Thats the Mets house, why cant you just stick to Yankee Stadium if your a YANKEE FAN??

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

Works both ways, Boosh. I know I've seen people on here bash Yankees fans for being rude to people wearing the opposing team's gear at Yankee Stadium. Mets fans love to trash talk Yankee fans at Shea just as much.

It's like that Bruce Willis movie where he had to walk through the Ghetto with a sign that said White Power to save his kids or something. The moment you heard he would have to do it you knew it was not a good thing.

Why go to Shea instead of Yankee Stadium? ::shrug:: Convenience is the first thought I have living on LI. When I was in CT, I would never dream of going to Shea, but I guess now I would go check out a game there.

I still would rather drive up to Yankee Stadium. Feels good looking at Monument Park and seeing my favorite number - 23!!!

Re: Mets vs. Yankees -- The Countdown is ON!!

Incidentally, I've continued my informal study of the 'Last Place/Second Place' argument, and most people I've spoken to, regardless of team, have said they'd prefer a World Series loss over not making it into the Post Season.

FH (Yankee Fan) would like to add that he would rather lose in the World Series than the ALCS (like the Redsux).

Mark (Mets Fan) says its BS that any Mets fan would rather not make it to the World Series at all, however understands Don's point from the Standpoint of it being the YANKEES in the Series. He, however, would rather the Mets make it to the Series and lose than die in last place.

Finally, Paul (Dodgers Fan who HATES the Yankees) says he would rather lose in the series, and that the Mets could win a million championships while the Yanks floundered and NY would still be Yankeetown.

These are nothing more than the informal results of an informal study of a bunch of sports fans around my office, because I'm slacking off.
