Royal Hideaway in Playacar is awesome!!! We went for FI's birthday for 2004 and I had been there once with a good friend in 2002.

We stayed at the Royal Hideaway! It was amazing! Highly reccomend it.

My FH and I went to the Mayan Riviera early in our relationship and stayed at the Maroma Hotel (www.maromahotel.com). It was the most amazing place. We were picked up from the airport in a brand new Explorer and given wet towels and cold water.
The hotel is hidden from the road, so you literally drive through 10 minutes of jungle to get to it. I can't say enough. We fell in love there. If anyone wants more info on the hotel or other things to do in the area, FM me.

thats another great one

read reviews... with EL Creayas and Tamrindo, its like an escape... i think one or both has open air showers... no tv... alot of nature things like animals runnign around, private pool, etc

prices are reasonable...just didnt want to 7 days there
