I have always wanted to get married on the 4th of July but, for 2006 it falls on a tuesday If I had my wedding in the middle of the week on a holiday week no less, would less people come to the wedding? Please give me honest opinions, would you go to a wedding in the middle of the week (night wedding) if you were invited to one or would you be annoyed that the person was throwing a wedding on a Tuesday. TIA

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
Honestly, I would not be happy if I was invited to a Tuesday wedding. I have a wdding Memorial Day weekend AND Labor Day weekend and I'm not thrilled with those dates either. Maybe I sound like a biatch, but this is my honest opinion. Oh and as far as everyone's comments about if peope are close to you they will be there no mater what, that is definitely true, they just may feel inconvenienced.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
I would do it the 3rd of July, or even better the 2nd of July (Sunday night). You know everyone is off on Sunday, plus most people will be off Monday, and it is 4th of July weekend.

Okay, my wedding is the Thursday before 4th of July (2006). If you did chose to go with something on or around the 4th, I'd recommend the Monday before. This way most people will be off that day and the 4th! FM me if you have any questions.
ETA: I just read thru all these replies and there are some responses similar to the ones I received when I was booking my Thursday evening wedding.

If you send out Save the Date's people will show. I definatly would!! I would have loved to have my wedding on that day. Everywhere I looked had that date booked. So your not alone. I think you should go for it, and send the Save the Dates well in advance so people dont book vacations.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
If you are going to save a significant amount of money by doing it on a Tuesday - then yes, I would do it. But sometimes they charge the same or more because it's a holiday. And I would definitely negotiate for a low minimum.
Because it's a holiday, it's maybe a little less incovenient for your guests. Yes, you'll have a lot of OOTers rsvp No because it's a middle of the week thing. But in reality, if you do it on a holiday weekend, travel is more expensive anyway so many OOTers may so no anyway.
And yes, the most important people will be there no matter when you do it.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
There is no easy answer to this question. I think overall if a july 4th wedding is your dream then stick to it, in the end it is about the celebration of your union. However, if you always envisioned aunt such and such and many others to be there then you might want to make it a day or 2 earlier to make sure they can come. In the end the important people will be there if given enough notice.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
If it was a local wedding (in LI) - I'd go. Anywhere else, I wouldn't go and I would feel inconvenienced esp if it were the case that I had off on Monday and then were supposed to go back to work on the Tuesday.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
While you should have your wedding whenever you want it, just know that a middle of the week wedding will definitely cut your guest list down. A lot won't show. The important people definitely will, but a lot won't. I'm basing this only on various conversations I've had with others getting married. If people have to work the following day, and it's a nigh time wedding, it could be really iffy.

I don't want to start anything, and maybe I am a little sensitive to this b/c I am having a weekday wedding but I just wanted to say that each person I have said (those invitede and those not invited and not on this site) that we are having a Thursday wedding don't say 'Oh I would not go' Yes it may not be the most popular, but when we were picking our date, the day of the week fell near the bottom of the list of important things. I told FH I would accommodate our friends and families for our E-Party (which as a result was to be in Sept, but now is in 5 weeks), but for the wedding, we'd pick the date, place and time we wanted.

I have always seen weddings during the week to be imposing an inconvenience on your guests. Especially on a holiday like 4th of July. People look forward to BBqing and all that other stuff. GIve them something else to look forward to and have it the weekend after.
I agree, I don't think it's fair to any of your guests to have it in the middle of the week especially on a Holiday. I probably would not attend. Keep in mind it's do-able if you're only having immediate family, but if you're inviting extended family and friends they just might not come.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
I had my wedding the Wednesday night beofre Thanksgiving. It did not stop anyone from going to my wedding. Do not worry it is fine. People did not care infact maybe more people showed up because they were off and could go.
FM me if you have any questions.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
I would go...maybe not if I was an OOT. But I'm pretty sure I would go. If that's what you've always dreamed of I say go for it. There might be a few ppl who can't make it or who can't take off of work though.

It's your wedding. Pick whatever day you want. You do not need to pick a date to accomodate anyone except you and FI. Everyone else will follow your lead. With enough notice, everyone that wants to attend will be there.
I'm kind of surprised by the number of people that say they would not attend. It's a federal holiday so most people have that day off (except retail and restaurants). I guess some people might want to BBQ but that is no reason to change your 'dream' wedding date.
ETA - this is for July 4, 2006 and people that want to come have plenty of time to make arrangements for travel and to take off from work. Send Save the Dates by July 4 2005. Airlines do not even allow bookings more than a year in advance so nobody will even be able to plan a vacation (that includes a flight) by July 4, 2005.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
You absolutely have to worry about the need to accomodate other people, because without them, there is no party. People enjoy holidays because they get time off from work, get to hang out at home, invite people over, etc.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
Speaking from experience, we got married on Columbus Day which was a Monday in the afternoon. We had very few no's and most of the guests from work managed to take the day even though we were opened. We sent out save the date magnets we made on the computer well in advance. I say do what you want. Just be understanding it some people find it impossible to attend. We have over a hundred people and we expected about that many and we didn't break the bank in the process.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
I personally would go but I know when I was planning a monday holiday wedding when everyone was off I kept getting told by family that no one would come. As long as the important people show up who cares.

Re: Middle of the week wedding?
i would go if i lived in close proximity to the wedding. if i had to drive more than a few hours or fly i would not go most likely, unless it was family or a very good friend, or i was in the wedding party.
