Migraines

Migraines

I had a doosy last night. I wrapped my head in icepacks and went to sleep in a dark room. What do you girls do when you get them? There's got to be a better way than numbing my head.

I used to get them pretty bad and almost every day. I'm on medication that prevents me from even getting them, Topamax, but I still get one every once in a while, but they're not even as bad or that often. But when I get one I take Imitrex and Ibuprofen or Naproxen... and if I can I lay down and sleep for a bit, usually i'm ok after that. The meds do wonders for me! Before I went to my neurologist I was going through hell!

When I get killer migraines I take the prescribed migraine medicine Topomax....it's the only thing that takes works. No over the counter stuff works for me...laying down, sleeping..nothing works.

I dont know what its called but I knew someone that used to put a certain migrane medicine patch on their forehead.
Sorry I dont remember the name, maybe ask a pharmacist?

I was on Topamax for about a year and then decided to go off it. I do not get them as regularly as I did in the past. If I get one now I do lots of Motrin and sleep in a dark room. That seems to do the trick.

I go to the chiropractor and they use the TENS? or something like that, a good massage helps too!

hmm I've never heard of a patch specifically for migraines... is it an over the counter thing, or prescription?

I actually used to gt them really often in high school, thank God they have lessened, but I o just what you did...ice made it a bit better and definitely no light...for less severe ones, Excedrin for migraines helps a little too...hope you are feeling better

I dont know if it was a patch or not, but i know she put it on her forehead (at work lol) and it stayed there, like a patch would. I dont speak to this person anymore so I couldnt even ask to find out the name of it, sorry.

I take Excedrine Migraine and it works for me. It's usually gone within a 1/2 hour. I also do breathing and relaxation exercises which help- just concentrate on relaxing the muscles in your head. I used to take meds daily to prevent them, but I stopped because I didn't want to be on meds all the time for them.

Aww that's ok, I was just wondering because i'm a few months away from being a pharmacist and I didn't know a patch existed for headaches... I didn't want to feel like an idiot if someone came into the store asking for it, lol. I'll have to look into it though, thank you!

Re: Migraines

When i get them.... usually around my period... I take Excedrin Migraine and I try to take a short nap... if it is still not gone then I take the Imitex. I hate perscription drugs.

But I have heard that massages work too....

Oh and sometimes if i can catch the migraine early... coffee can sometimes do the trick... after all Imitrex and Excedrine Migraine are loaded with caffeine...

Re: Migraines

For me, it's either a full blown migraine or nothing. THere's no such thing as me getting 'just a headache'. I usually get one about once a week so I have a prescription pill that I take and it usually works within a half an hour. But when I do get one all I want to do is sleep! I've tried everything under the sun and unfortunatley the only thing that has worked is my pills.

My FSIL uses Fourninal? It is a prescription medication for migraines and she swears by it. My ex use to give himself the imetrex shots. There are also preventive meds to take, depending how often and bad you get them. A neurologist is the way to go.

Re: Migraines

So weird that you had a bad one last night.

I might have had the WORST migraine I have ever had in my life last night to the point that my prescription meds (Relpax) didn't even work.

I finally fell asleep and when I woke up 4 hours later it hurt even more. I swear I thought I was going to have an anurism.

I finally feel better but now I have that left over feeling that makes you feel like you are on drugs.

So obviously I have no answers for you, but can feel your pain
