Mini-vent: When did this get so overwhelming??

Mini-vent: When did this get so overwhelming??

So things have been moving along quite smoothly. I really haven't stressed too much since when I first found this site and thought I was doing everything wrong (lol... I've figure out since then that I don't have to do everything... just what we want). In any event, I've been striking a great balance between planning and having fun.

But right now I just realized how much is still left to do that I have no idea about.

Mainly, I got an email today from a good friend of FH's from NC who wanted to know what airport to fly into, where to stay, and how to get from the airport to the hotel.

I got the same email from a co-worker of FH's two weeks ago, and I explained it all.

Now the friend who emailed today wants to know if there's any way she can get transportation from the airport to the hotel with other people so the costs are defrayed. I agree with her -- it can be quite expensive and it would be a lot better if more people go at the same time, but I have NO IDEA when and where my guests are planning to fly to or how they're arranging their transportation.

And I just realized that I really MUST find out when people are coming in to see who can come to the RD!!!

I think my only real solution is to go home tonight and email all the OOTers I have email addresses for and ask them straight out where they are flying in, when they are flying in, and how they have arranged transportation (if any). I hate feeling like a travel agent, but I hate inconveniencing people more than necessary. Cabs are expensive from LGA to Melville! A supershuttle might be the way to go, if enough people are coming in at the same time...

So after all this... my main question is... when I email all my OOT guests, do I bcc everyone or leave the email addresses for everyone to see, so if they want to contact each other, they can?

Thanks for reading. Thank goodness it's lunch time!!!

I would only leave email addresses for everyone to see if they know each other. Or what you can do is group together a few emails of people that know each other. Personally, I dislike 'reply all' emails because people get a little out of hand with that type of stuff.

Also, if people are flying in to JFk...let them know about the shuttle from JFK to Jamaica station and then they can take the train from Jamaica to Melville. Then a cab to the hotel will not cost as much.

Do you have a wedding website? You could post all of the travel info there and then the OOT'ers could chat with each other and make car pool plans through the guest book.

IMO and I make get sh*t for it...But I dont think its your responsibility to worry about how OOT guests are getting from the airport to the hotel. My entire side of the family was OOT and coming from all over the country. I sent the hotel info in the invite and everything else was up to them. Some rented cars others contacted family members to get them.

On top of all the wedding planning the last thing you should do is plan everyones travel. They can call the hotel for limo/car service recommendations.

i agree with both ladies. i am NOT a fan of my e-mail address in mass e-mails to ppl. i would put the stuff up on your website if you have one, or (sorry) e-mail everyone individually and do some damage control.

also, my opinion is there is only so much you can do transportation wise. esp if you have a lot of OOT guests. its one thing to have a shuttle for them ALL from the hotel to the RH, but getting them from the airport to the hotel i would just suggest the best way to take the train. JMO.

Thank you all so much for your input!

I think what happened is that our wedding website on brides.com somehow doesn't work anymore, so even though I included all of that in the invite, no one can access it.

I'm going to send an email out like I described and definitely BCC it -- thank you for that feedback too!

I'll include a link to the wedding map I created on weddingmapper.com which should answer a lot of the questions. I may also put in the phone numbers for taxis or shuttles.

I really want to help people so they're not more inconvenienced, but it has been so much to deal with, more than I ever imagined!

I also think I'm going to leave work right at 5 today and get home and start my cleaning so at least my apartment is ready for the guests I'm having this weekend!!! I'm so excited for my girls' night out!

How about sending an evite?

I know it's not a party lol, but at least everyone can see the info and share their travel plans, and everyone's emails will be kept confidential.

I HAVE TO AGREE.. I understand if you want to do this for immediate family flying in, but not for friends and distant family... they should be responsible for themselves.. i went to an OOT wedding once and the couple didnt offer anything, they didnt even book blocks of rooms... maybe you can work something out wiht the hotel, they can tell the hotel when they arrive and they will send a car to get them?

I would leave email addresses for everyone so that on top of you helping them out, they can contact each other
