Re: Miss, Ms or Mrs??????

When I was typing up the addresses for our engagement party my FH 'lectured' me about this, because he sees this often at his job and blah blah blah (mr. knowitall)
Miss is single, no matter the age
Ms is engaged or divorced
mrs is married or widowed, UNLESS they are engaged to someone else, then they go back to ms.

I don't think it's right, but supposedly it's a title thing at work that's been an issue.

Re: Miss, Ms or Mrs??????

Ms. was created to be used as the answer to Mr. It can be used for all women regardless of age and marital status.

Re: Miss, Ms or Mrs??????

This was what i found on Microsoft's website when addressing my envelopes...HTH!

Miss is used for an unmarried woman.

Mrs., with her husband's full name (if known), is used for a married woman or a widow; if a divorcée retains her married name, use Mrs. plus her own name, not her husband's.

Ms. is used in any of the above cases if the woman prefers it; it's also used if you do not know the woman's marital status or if you're addressing a divorcée who has resumed her maiden name.

Re: Miss, Ms or Mrs??????

Ms. - any woman over the age of 18 either married, unmarried, widowed, divorced, gay, straight, etc.

Mrs. - a married or widowed woman regardless if she's 17 or 99.

Miss - an unmarried woman again regardless of age.

I prefer to be referred to as Ms. therefore I address things as Ms.

In the professional realm, all business letters are address either to 'Ms.' or another courtesy title such as 'Dr.' 'Professor' etc.
