We were in that house for 25 years, but my parents can't afford to live here anymore so off they go. They are moving upstate closer to my brother and SIL.
Getting dressed on my wedding day there is going to mean more to me now then before. I'm also sleeping there the night before (i live with FI now). That night will be the last night i EVER sleep there
So I'm happy for them, yet its sad
thanks for listening ladies

Aww... I know it must be sad for you but it is great that you are understanding that it is best for your parents. It will be all the more special on your wedding day for you.

That is sad, but I'm glad you can get dressed there on your wedding day. That will mean a lot.

Re: Mixed Emotions
Aww! That would make me sad too! At least you get to spend your most important night ever there! And you have a professional photographer to capture the moment!

Re: Mixed Emotions
You have every right to feel sad...especially since you sleeping there and getting ready will be your last time there. On the other hand, look at this as a closing of one chapter of your life and the start of another!
It is so sad to think about what it costs to live in New York in our days...that it actually forces people to move out...not fot nothing but it is going to get a lot worst...NYS has the biggest budget deficit in the nation, and at this point there is really no strategy to fix it...taxes are going to get higher and higher, which will eventually start forcing more and more people to leave New York.

I know how you feel. My parents will probably move after I leave. The house is too big for the two of them. I know it's best for them and they can spend more time in FL, but I feel bad that my children will never get to visit here like my nieces and nephews do.

Re: Mixed Emotions
I felt the same way when my mom sold 'my' house. I lived there my whole life. I actually did a 'drive by' when I was in town and it still looks exactly the same on the outside which made me

I know how sad it can be! My parents are in the talks of selling their house & moving to Maine (closer to my brother, SIL & Nephew)...I am so sad about it but financially the taxes are killing them here!!! It is VERY emotional & to go through it at the same time as the wedding, makes it 100 times worse..Just remember all the memories!!!! You are leaving on the best day of you life!!!

Re: Mixed Emotions
It's a very sad thing. I constantly think about my parents house upstate...My Mom has passed and my Dad isn't in the best health. They built the house together and the thought of someone else living in the house is so hard. I can't offer any words of advice...just lots of hugs.

Re: Mixed Emotions
It is very sad. My parents sold my choldhood home about 6 years ago, and I was devastated. I was especially sad when I got engaged, thinking I would not get to take pics in my parents bedroom. Then we moved our wedding upstate to their lake house, which is a real home to me too.
Things have a way of working themselves out, in every situation. You are lucky to be able to be there one last time, albiet bittersweet.

Re: Mixed Emotions
Aww, it's perfectly natural to feel this way!! There's a lot of changes going on in your life right now, it's ok to be both happy and sad about all of them.
Don't worry, in due time you'll get used to it and then everything will be fine. This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: 'Don't cry because it ended, smile because it happened'. Revel in the fact that you have sweet memories of your childhood home.

I know how you feel. My parents are getting ready to sell their home I lived in for 20+ years. It's all right to be happy and sad, but at least you'll have photogrpahy to show your kids one day!!!

My parents sold our home about 4 years ago, for the same reason. I was sad about it, but seeing how happy they are now, I know it was for the best.

Re: Mixed Emotions
It's never easy losing the house you grew up in! I was so sad when my parents moved. I wasn't even living in NY so I didn't get to 'say goodbye', pack anything, come across old memories, etc. But, I knew my parents would be happier, and they are. Your wedding day will be all the more special now!

Re: Mixed Emotions
talk about coming across memories.
in the attic was a box full of stuff from an ex-boyfriend from 1993-1995 (he was my first love)
my barbie dream cottage and corvette.
I know its for the best and my brother is super happy to have them close, especially with the fact that he and my SIL are starting to get preggo.
I was 5 when we moved there. I've experienced many good and bad memories in that house, but I'll have the best memory of all when I'm sleeping there and getting dressed for my big day.
My wedding is in May, the closing will be in June.
