So from what I've been told, the MOB and MOG are supposed to wear different colors. I don't see why it's an issue if they wear the same.
However, I also heard that the MOB gets to pick her color first. So I am thinking my Mom is going to want to wear purple because it's her favorite color and it will match the colors of the wedding (pink and green). Well my FMIL had asked me a few weeks ago if my mom knew what color she would be wearing. I said no because I don't.
The other day we were driving in the car and she goes 'so I was thinking I'm going to wear a lavender dress with gold beading if i can find it. I think it will go with your colors.' I feel like she was half trying to get approval from me to wear the color.
Shouldn't she not be deciding until she knows what my Mom is wearing?
In all honestly I would not care in the slightest bit if they were wearing the same color (my Mom would prob wear dark purple since she is pale like me).
Is this a no-no? My mom will prob be upset if they are wearing the same color since she is the one who told me they are not supposed to.
Opinions please! TIA

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
yeah not mine! i was kinda annoyed about it because my mom had gotten her dress way early! and my MIL knew the dress color! when she found the dress she wanted it came in 3 different colors! she decided to get the same color as my mom!
if she hasnt gotten her dress yet, i would just say my mom really wants to wear purple, and maybe suggest a color she would look fab in...play it up! be like OMG i think you would look amazing in blue! or whatever! lol

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
i dont think they are supposeed to wear the same exact color. but they are supposed to complement eachother. so if your mom wears a purple-purple and his mom wears a light puprle i think that would look really good!
talk to your mom about colors. did she want lavendar specifically?

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
They are suppose to be in different colors.
I mean if one is in dark purple & the other in lavander, I dont think thats such a big deal, but it should definetly be your mom's pick first!

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
There is no 'rule'. I guess it really depends on what you want. I just told my moms that they couldnt not wear ivory, champange or anything in that color area. I didnt care if the colors went with my color theme.
I also think that if you want your mom to be able to pick first then she should shop for the dress on the early side so MIL still has plenty of time to find a dress

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
My mother told me that the MOB is supposed to get her dress first and then let MOG know so MOG can get her dress with that in mind. So they arent' wearing the same dress and/or color. My mom did call MOG and told her she didn't care and MOG could go dress shopping if she wanted to.

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
There's really no 'supposed' to - the only thing it's definitely NOT supposed to be is white, ivory, etc.
I told my mom and FMIL I didn't want them to get a dress the same color as my BM dresses because that was my preference. My BM dresses are dark red, my mom's dress is brown and FMIL's dress is navy blue. I'm thrilled with all of these choices!

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
I could care less if they wore the same color or even the same dress! I actually wanted them to wear the same color so it looks 'organized'. FMIL asked FH to ask MM (my mother) if she wanted to go dress shopping together, MM said no, because she's trying to loose weight and isn't getting her dress until LAST minute. So in my case, FMIL will chose first. I either want them in the same color, I think they both want green OR I want FMIL in green and MM in ivory/beige/cream. She wore cream to my brothers wedding it looked amazing, and my SIL helped pick the dress out.

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
I don't really care about what color my mom or FMIL wear. FMIL will be wearing an Indian sari and my mom will be wearing a dress so they will be different. FMIL is going to wear one sari for the ceremony and another for the reception so I can't really control the colors she wears. As long as it's not white, I'm fine.

a friend of ours FILs GIRLFRIEND wore a white sari to their wedding, then again to the other sons wedding. I think I was more pi ss ed off then the bride

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
It honestly depends on the mothers. It is tradition for MOB to pick first, and for MOG to wear a different color, but your mom could also approach MOG and tell her that she doesn't care what color, if your mom doesn't mind if they end up with the same color.

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
MOB gets to pick her color first. As far as MOG asking if it's ok if she wears a similar color, if you don't care, she should ask your mom if she minds.

Re: MOB and MOG dress question
My FMIL had found a dress and color that she liked online but said she knew etiquette stated MOB is supposed to choose first. So I told my mom what color FMIL was interested in, and my mom stayed away from that color.....actually, similar situation. My mother's fav color is green, and FMIL wanted to wear a shade of green. But we found a color for my mom that looks even better on her. So she bought her gown and then FMIL bought hers.

ITA -- I just wanted them to find something they loved. We didn't really talk about who was wearing what, they just both went out and found one that they liked, and I look forward to seeing both dresses on them!
