My mom is a very nice person, but she and I are opposites in a lot of ways, she does not much like special occasions and dressing up. If you knew me it's just too funny. So while my reception will be informal, I still want her to look nice, so many of my friends say, 'I can't wait to meet your mom' Mom hates to shop, has a bad shoulder, hates to drive, lives out of town, blah blah blah....basically she has no plans to get any sort of new outfit, and her wardrobe is...let's say low key. Part of me is fine, live and let live, but this is her one chance to be a MOB! She gets into town on Friday 7/25, should I try to get her to some MOB type place, to get a new outfit, or should I just let this one go? I kinda think I will be adding a lot of stress when I don't need it. Even if we could get her a dress, we would not have time for shoes, bra, purse, so I am not sure if it's even possible. If there is some place out there that could work magic? I know she will not want to lift up her shoulder a lot, so I need a salesperson who can work fast and respect her limits. I guess another option would be to find a seamstress in her town who could make a house call. Any ideas? My mother needs a fairy godmother with a magic wand!

Re: mob doesn't want to dress up
I would try and get her to a store like Macy's or Lord and Taylor that has nice dresses and pant suits for women. Dont force it on her though... but maybe something like that would inspire her! GL!

Maybe you can puchase some simple dresses that she can try on at home with you - if it doesn't work out you can always return them.

Re: mob doesn't want to dress up
yea my mom wasn't dressed like many mom's on here get dressed up. My mom thinks its silly to pay tons of money for a dress she will only wear once she she got an outfit she is wearing to a black tie event in the fall and that she also wore to my wedding.
But i even thought that was a bit dressier then she normally would go. That was purchased in totaly you in bellmore. I would try macys and then one 'mom' store which really has a good selection.

That's what I was thinking, or perhaps order from somewhere and have them sent to her, since it seems like she doesn't live near you....I know Coldwater Creek (surprisingly) had some nice, less formal mom-type stuff....

Re: mob doesn't want to dress up
great suggestions one and all! If I could find some sort of pretty caftan with some little sparkles, she could wear that with sandals and it would be easy to get in to. The mail order idea is brilliant! Thanks
