I honestly dont think it matters much. Most of the pictures of your parents will be just them with you guys so you guys will all match.

Its kinda funny that you said red is a nogo and that black is okay. I told my mom and FMIL that white and black were the only 2 colors that werent okay. I have a thing with the mothers wearing black at a wedding.. I feel like moms wearing black is mourning the wedding (rediculous, I know, but I cant help it). If your cool with her in black though then I wouldnt worry about it matching, like the other girls said, she will mostly be only in the pics of the 2 of you.

I never really cared much about the colors people wear. Red, black, whatever! My girls are wearing navy so my mom wouldn't even look at ANY blue. I think as long and you and your moms are happy, it works!

I didn't think I cared about what colors anyone wore but then my FMIL sent me a picture of her in a RED one shoulder gown and all I could picture was her standing out in all the pictures and clashing with the subtle muted tones (plum and charcoal) that everyone else was wearing. I vetoed it immediately and thankfully she didn't put up a fight. I definitely would have been OK with her in black, for me it was just that the red was soooooo flashy. I think black is classic and matches with everything so in my opinion she can't go wrong. As long as you and your FW are ok with it I say let her go for it!

I asked all the mothers(there's a step mom too) to wear neutrals, beiges, ivories, etc as I didnt want anyone to really stand out too much. My colors are gold and crimson and my BM are in gold, my MOH in crimson, so neutrals on the moms seems to blend everyone in nicely. I kinda feel the same way about black. On a mom, it seems a little grim. But that's just me
