hi! i am new to this forum and in need of help. we have been looking for a reception hall on and off for quite some time and can't seem to find somewhere that we really like.
we now live in florida, but are debating whether to hold the ceremony in florida or new york, but are leaning more heavily to new york (most of our family live on long island as opposed to florida). there seems like many beautiful places out there but not what we are looking for. many places have a very old fashioned, traditional feel to them with very outdated decor (we have had an opportunity to see many more places in florida than new york and this is a big commonality out here-very traditional wedding halls. reason # 2 for considering new york). although they are very beautiful facilities, this is not what we are looking for. does anyone know of any facilities that have a more modern design/feel to them that they could recommend???
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This but not so sure about the inside. I think you best bet might be NYC venues. I havent visited enough venues to really recommend places. Good luck with your search.

I got married at Chateau Briand and it has a very Miami Beach theme. It is beautiful outside and inside and very modern.

They do exist, but I think in that case you should stick more to the city..You could rent awesome lofts and turn them into that venue you want..check out battery gadens, the foundry, BK botanical gardens, Gotham hall.. Again it all depends on your budget too, if you have flexible budget you could turn any vision.. With renting super modern spaces in the city you have to take into consideration you have to get everything yourself from food to chairs, linens the whole 9... I'm getting married at Crest hollow, i loved it bc it gave me the feel of modern (outside area) and the room I picked didn't give me the old feel, party yet sophisticated enough to hold my wedding...
hope this helps

Re: modern type reception halls..do they exist?!
a couple of weeks ago I was on the same boat as you! I was looking for a more modern hall (light colored walls, non carpeted floors, uplighting were all things we really wanted) a couple of people did recommend Chateau Briand I fell in love with the outside but the inside (although was beautiful) it really wasn't what we were looking for. After going to a few different venues, we went to the sand Castle and fell in love with the grand ballroom, it was exactly what we wanted My advice is to look at pictures of some venues first, if it's somewhat like what you're looking for then go see it in person and hopefully you'll find your perfect place! I wish you the best of luck

I also wanted to add that I went to a wedding once at the Allegria hotel and it was very modern, but from what I've heard it can be quite pricey but it's worth taking a look Here are some pics I found online:
thank you SO much. i just looked at the pictures and these are GREAT recommendations. sandcastle is beautiful!

I was going to say, I feel like Cresthollow is pretty modern looking outside now that they added the sand and gave it a Florida kind of feel! I'm in Florida a lot so I know what you mean. I actually didn't go with a place like that because I didn't want too modern. I can't think of the name right now but there's a hotel out east that was very modern looking... and I'd suggest maybe the Metropolitan also. The reception hall list on this site is very good and you can just check the websites, though I've found that sometimes they are much nicer in person!

Look at the website for Chateau La Mer. It's beautiful and newly rennovated - very modern inside and out. It's also right on the water and they give you the opportunity to 'escape' your families via a mini yacht ride and then make a grand entrance back to the party following your ceremony.

Hotel Indigo! That is the place out east I believe you are referring to? I was trying to think of that place before and couldn't remember...

Fox Hollow-The Somerley. VERY beautiful and modern.
However, the area where the cocktail hour is is very old-fashioned, so this room is a real 360 contrast from the lobby and other rooms!

I had my reception at Bridgeview Yacht Club and they have a modern club space right next door. They do weddings and use the same menu as the main reception hall.

Oh yea that's it! It looks beautiful I drove past it and I guess it's very long because from the front it didn't look as big of a place as I thought it would be. It's pretty chic inside though!

Woodbury Country club is modern (larger room with outside area) Hotel indigo in Riverhead is VERY modern but a little on the small side if you are having a lot of people it won't work A lot of places can be 'dressed up' to look modern as well!

I second Sand Castle! The ballroom is beautiful. They have TVs that show everyone at the wedding and a great lighting system.
