MOH etiquette wedding gift amount
What is the proper etiquette for a sister who is the MOH to give the bride as a wedding gift? I'm the older sister and my younger sister is my MOH. She is currently in a doctoral program and not working. I also don't believe she'll be bringing a date to the wedding but that's not a definite. How much is an appropriate amount for her to give me as a gift? (and yes, I know this sounds snobby but she asked me to ask because she doesn't know!) TIA

Is she throwing your shower? If she is paying for the whole thing herself, and is in school and isnt working, id say a small gift is appropriate.

My mom and FMIL will be throwing the shower along with my sister, so no, she won't be paying for the whole thing herself. She will be contributing though.

That's a tough one. My brother's haven't gotten married yet but my friend and her fiance gave her brother $1000 as a wedding gift. I would say maybe $500 since she won't be bringing a date. I'm curious what other people think.

To be honest, I would tell her not to get me anything but I'm sure she won't listen to that haha. If it were me, I'd tell her to give me maybe $200 but that's just my opinion

Tell her enough to cover her plate. She has the shower, dress, shoes, alterations, hair/makeup, bachorette party.I believe that the bridal party is paying a lot over time, and you have to take all the expenses into account.

AGree! Don't get me wrong I love generous gifts but things are tough now...I'm sure the bride will understand and appreciate anything you give.

It's hard to just throw our a number....I'd tell her to give whatever she feels comfortable with. On one end it is your sister but on the other end she is still in school and it is very expensive to be part of a bridal party. Also, if she is tight you can mention other things she can do i,e., help you move, help you do spring cleaning, help you paint, lol I dont know but something along those lines.

THIS! totally agree. my younger sister is my MOH too. i wouldn't be comfortable accepting money from her. in my mind, she has already done enough for me with just being my MOH!

Also, when my oldest brother got married I did not work and was still in school so my parents gave a gift on my behalf. Not sure if that is an option for you. My MOH is my little cousin who is 19 and in school. I know my aunt and uncle will be covering her. I think this is pretty common, in my family anyway lol!

I feel the same way, my sister is going to only be 24 when we get married. I don't expect a huge crazy gift if she's going to be putting together other things for me. I'm happy enough to have her next to me through all of this!

I told my sister not to give me anything. She'd already put so much time and energy into my wedding, while being in school and starting a new job. She didn't pay for the shower, because my mom and MIL did, but she's still probably spent hundreds of dollars on wedding related things. She has student loan debt to worry about, so I didn't want to take any of her money. She didn't end up bringing a date, but my answer was the same when she was going to.

i refused to take anything from my sister. i let her give me a card but after all the money she spent to be my MOH, not to mentione she was MOH for her best friend a month later, i put my foot down and wouldn't take a dime from her.

I would tell her to not get me anything either. You know she still will though. I don't think there's a number in a handbook somewhere that says a MOH is required to give this or that. Tell her to not worry or give what she feels is appropriate and that you just want her there by your side on your special day. It's not about the money she can or cannot give you.Welcome New Vendors
