My mom hates every idea I come up with. I am trying to find unique things for placecards. I told her some great ideas (some of which I got from an old LIW thread) She called everything cheesy! I can't take her! Does anyone have any other cool ideas for place cards?

Personally, I am a fan of the place card chart that lists everyone's name alphabetically.

i always wanted to this for a fall wedding and i think it is tasteful. take mini pumpkins and gold paperclips. bend the paperclips so the one end is pointy. stick in in the mini pumpkin and place the seating card in the clip part of the paper clip. make sense?

I would like to know what your mom suggestions are. Just remember that it is YOUR wedding and if it is something you feel strongly about go for it.
P.S. I am doing the seating chart instead of place cards

I can relate. I've gotten some weird looks in response to some ideas I've had. It's like anything that wasn't done years ago is dumb. Just remember it's your day. That's what I'm trying to do.

so far my mom is not thrilled with the sample invitation i made. it's not what she said, it's what she DIDN'T say...
i then asked about placecards and some different ideas. her response 'what's wrong with simple folded ones?'
she had a point, but it's not what i wanted to hear...

that is the exact reason why FH and I do things....and THEN tell our parents....we rarely ask for opinions because it's dangerous to open that option to them!!!

ooh- I like the pumpkin idea- can I steal that? I know I will drive FH crazy getting 80 gourds that I find acceptaple, but it does go with our theme.
Actually I think plain cards can be tackier than soem of the other popular ideas.
How about the frame idea- I think that is classy. So is the seating list. I just think some of my guests will forget by the time they get to their table.

oh yeah- and for the old fashioned thing, my mom didn't understand that don't want white flowers. What will you have-a color?) Yes ma, a color. Maybe several colors.
Other things she frowned upon ( most of which I'm not doing anyway)
different dresses uneven gm & bms co- bestmen food as a favor an ivory dress spaghetti straps or strapless ( sleevelss was hard enough, till she saw it!) ANd she's not really old -fashioned!
Just hasn't been to a wedding in a while.

yeah, i'm not saying much either anymore. i couldn't stand getting so excited about something to have a response that didn't have that same feeling. as long as fh is excited and likes then i'm fine. and my mom is driving me nuts. she lives out east and is a beach freak and the fact that i am taking her away from the beach for a day, not even the whole weekend, but a friggin day, and i'm not hearing the end of it. she is joking, but i sense some truth to her sarcasm. and im her only child and i;m gettin gmarried!!!

thats what i learned to do to....
my moms trying to show me placecards that she likes cause theyre cheap, i told her no, im doing cd's and wrapping vellum around it with the name and table number... she tells me, i shouldnt do that, cause the elderly guests arent going to use them, and is telling me to find another favor thats elderly friendly... im not doing different sets of favors to accomodate people.. plus im doing something in addition to the cd, and she tells me ' it should only be one favor given, like back in my day '.... yeah that was 30+ years ago.. things changed..

maybe you could get goodie bags, and fill them with some candy for the kids.. that way they dont miss out on trick or treating..
