Maybe I'm being picky, but I was shocked that my mom wanted to wear a pant's outfit to my wedding! Is this appropriate for the mother of the bride who WILL be escorting the bride down the isle along with my dad? I know my FMIL too is all about the pants too (let's just hope she at least buys a new outfit to wear instead of the one she's worn to the last 200 weddings she's gone to in the last 20 years!). She recently wore such an outfit to fiance's brother's wedding, but that was a SERIOUSLY informal event of less than 50 people. Just wanted to know what ideas others have of 'nice' pants outfits for stubborn moms at a formal/semiformal wedding!

Re: Mom's in pants!
My FMIL will probably wear a pants outfit also. My mom is wearing a dress. But you know what - let them wear what they want - AS LONG AS IT ISNT WHITE - dont worry. You have enough to worry about, like me, im sure!

Re: Mom's in pants!
Just wanted to say hi. Saw you were relatively new. I am pretty new. That is pretty funny about the pants outfit. If it is going to be formal then they need to wear a dress. My mom would love to wear pants if I would let her, but too bad

I guess you could look on the bright side... a nice pant suit is better than an ugly dress.

Re: Mom's in pants!
I definitely wouldn't wear a pants outfit to any of my children's weddings and my daughter and I would both have been very upset if the MOG wore one, no matter how dressy.

I think some pants outfits may even be fancier than a gown!!! I would want my mother to be comfortable and I'm sure she will look beautiful either way.

I dont think you are being picky. My wedding is too formal for pants, but even if I was not having a really formal wedding I would not want my mom or FMIL to wear pants.

That was too funny! Very true too. Maybe once we go shopping (and I am dragging my fmil to a shop b/c if she wears that same outfit to my wedding that she probably wore to fiance's first wedding and all the other weddings she's ever been too... I will rip the outfit right off of her and make her put a DRESS on). I'll take a pants outfit come to think of it rather than fmil wearing that SAME OLD outfit!!!

So funny! I would so much rather my mother wore a dress though.

I think its fine as long as its dressy enough. Davids Bridal has a pants set I really like- I am actually trying to talk my mom INTO getting it... but she doesn't like the color.
Hell, I'd wear pants if I could get away with it!

Okay gf, here's a good laugh. My FMIL wants to find dressy cargo pants. Our wedding is black tie.

Re: Mom's in pants!
Here's what you do. You take her out shopping. Have her try on anything & everything. (dresses & pants) If she finds a beautiful dress that she looks amazing in it. It will change her mind. (I did that w. my Aunt for my wedding. And she wore a lovely floor length dress. ) But as some of the others have said there are some gorgeous outfits out there that just happened to be pants.
Best of Luck

there are some pants outfits that actually look like dresses with flowing material, and a matching jacket that will come with it......
perhaps you could say something like its one day out of your whole life that you want her to dress up more

Yes, you are being extremely picky! A pants outfit is fine as long as it is dressy. Let your mother be comfortable. I know many women, including myself, who almost never wear skirts or dresses because we are not comfortable in them. Anyone who forces their own mother to wear something that they are not comfortable in should be ashamed. JMO

That's what I was thinking- 'pants outfits that actually look like dresses with flowing material, and a matching jacket that will come with it'. Those can look really nice sometimes and tend to be very flattering on alot of figures.

Re: Mom's in pants!
I think pant suits look stunning on certain body types. I say, if it's dressy enough in material, it should be great!
Don't let anyone tell you it's not formal enough, they don't know your mother or the style of your wedding. The difference between a woman who is confident in her pants suit, and a woman wearing a dress she is uncomfortable in is huge. It's all about the attitude. go mom!

I agree, my Mom wore pants to my wedding and i wasn't offended and they looked very nice. I think that your mom should be comfortable and if the pants are dressy enough it will be fine.

Re: Mom's in pants!
Thanks for the nice suggestions. Actually, my mom and I talked and she is open to trying on dresses as well... I'm learning sometimes it just pays to communicate. I'm glad I did. I didn't make her feel bad at all, I just asked her to be open and I agreed to be open too. We actually got a laugh out of it and she's psyched to go shopping for HER as well as me which will be so fun. I just hope I can work a similar miracle on FMIL
