Monetary gifts preferred--UPDATE ON PAGE 2

Original post by Spitzergirl

I have seen this on invitations all the way at the bottom in a tiny font, much more smaller then the wording invitation.

Is this poor taste to get cash , instead of family members or friends giving you 4 toasters at your wedding?

My girlfriend recieved so many gifts that were duplicate that she wished she had suggested monetary gifts. What do you ladies think?

I think it's tacky! Although my family in Italy has been doing it...something like' No boxed gifts please..'
People in this area for thr most part give money...that's definitely not the case everywhere else. Is is horrible to say that that's one of the reason's we're getting married in NY?

To be honest - I don't understand why you are so upset that he is asking where you are registered - most people are and at least you would get something that you needed or wanted - since you registered for it - if you would really rather have the cash - you can always return it. As people are saying - some people end up getting stiffed at weddings so at least you know he cares enough to want to get you something that you requested...

I'm curious - is your supervisor invited to the wedding? I'm asking because in my experience - some people who are not invited to the wedding (or who are invited and can't make it) sometimes give a gift instead of cash. Maybe for the same reason that someone mentioned earlier - because it looks better to give a $40 gift instead of a $40 check. Or sometimes people feel that purchasing a gift is more personal or thoughtful and they want you to know they put effort into your gift.

It's verrrrrry tacky to put this on an invite.

I wish I could put money requested but I am not.

I think a bunch of brides that have posted on this thread are missing a couple one important point. DO NOT expect everyone to give you cash at your wedding. People do give gifts, you might not be aware of it when you attend a wedding, but I bet if you ask around almost everyone will tell you they got at least 1 gift at their wedding...there seem to be a bunch of posts that say no one gives gifts at wedding in NY. IMO that isn't true.

AHHH all the intricacies of etiquette and wedding planning....does everyone want to pull their hair out yet?
